can I get some golden highlights on my level 5N bangs by just applying straight 20 volume peroxide?

permanent dye can lift 1 level with 20 vol. Are you thinking about a dark golden blonde color? Cause then it may work :)

Another way would be highlighting the hair to yellow and then apply the desired blonde toner to get the exact color that you want.
