I am confused. Is this product a good color or now?
My hairstylist wants to try this on my hair, but I have been resisting. Now a friend of mine says that this color fades on her hair very quickly and that the product especially fades on red hair.
When I asked my hairstylist about it she said that there are ways to prevent the fading such as applying a clear glaze afterwards and being careful to use color maintenance shampoos.
Now I am not sure what is right or what is wrong.
I found a site that discussed Paul Mitchell The Color but the opinions are up and down the scale from it's a great product to it sucks.
Help. Has anyone used this product or had it used on their hair? Have you had it on your hair longterm? What's the true scoop.
My hairstylist said that Paul Mitchell recently reformulated The Color and it's much better.
And what are Paul Mitchell Color Drops? Do they go with The Color or are they completely different?

You need to be careful with any ammonia-based hair color line. The ammonia blasts open your cuticle in order for the color to penetrate, but the pH of you hair is changed so drastically that your cuticle has a hard time closing. A cuticle not being able to close just means MORE FADING and MORE DAMAGE.
Also, red hair fades very easily (as you seem to know). When your hair is dyed your stylist should not use warm/hot water to rinse out the red dye, it contributes to fading.
As for shampoos, you need to use shampoo/conditioner without SLS, they also contribute to fading.
BOTTOM LINE: You should see if your hair stylist would be interested in becoming educated in ammonia-free (truly ammonia-free hair color). For example, Organic Color Systems actually helps the hair's condition over time. They use heat and a coconut derived ingredient to open your cuticle, then the conditioning process is ACTUALLY ABLE TO CLOSE. Which means what? MUCH MUCH LESS FADING AND HEALTHIER HAIR.
Hope this helps, I am obviously in love with that color line.

Oh wow. Excellent tips Neebles. Is Organic Color Systems the name of a hair color line or a general reference to organic color? Is it made by a company?
Also, I agree that when it comes to hair color issues such as fading that you should work with a professional hair colorist.
