I'm going to a party in a couple of weekends which is based on an eighties theme. I currently have BSL hair which is all one length with no bangs.

Can anyone suggest a 'classic' 80's retro look for me which doesn't involve cutting my hair.

Thanks

Stacy

the only thing i could think of is teasing and crimping. maybe you can look at some madonna styles from the 80s for ideas.

Layla,

Thanks for the ideas. I have been looking around a few different 80's sites and the big hair was really in wasn't it.

How would I get the big teased look? Do I set my hair on hot rollers and then spray and backcomb it out? That seems to be the only way I can figure it out. Are there any sites with directions.

Also, I am looking for some pics of crimped styles with BSL hair. Can anyone point me in that direction. I would need to get a crimper, but it sounds like an option.

Hi Stacy,

One way to achieve that big 80's look would be to set your hair on tiny perm rods until the hair is completely and thoroughly dry, then carefully unwind the hair. Poof! Finish with hairspray to hold the mane in place, maybe even spray on while bent over at the waist, then flip your head back after a few seconds (so that it doesn't stand straight up).

HTH! Have fun at the party and let us know about your party hairstyle.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't know if I would be very good at rolling my own hair onto perm rods, but I may be able to get a friend to help. I like the idea.

Thanks

You can also braid your hair in a bunch of small braids while its wet the night before, when you take it out you'll get the permed look that was in style then.

We used to do the poofy bangs look by spraying our bangs, using a curling iron to curl them either back or forward, brushing out the spray, and spraying again for the finished product. If you don't have bangs, you can probably still do that to the front of your hair, with hair parted on the side to poof it up over the top of your head. (This is really bad for hair, but I don't think it will hurt it if its just for this one time party.)
