My hair was perfect before I was stupid enough to add some highlights in during the summer... I need some tips to healthier hair. I have thick curly/wavy hair and i just got it cut so the dead ends are gone. Are there any recommendations?

Hi Liberty,

Join the healthy hair club! Here is what I do:

(1) Conditioning well, using a leave-in oil treatment or a prewash. (see thread called "ask MizzP for problems" in the Straight Talk board, MizzP isn't around anymore and I kind of .. ahem.. invaded her thread to answer an oiling question. Prewash oiling instructions are at the very bottom of the 1st page)

Since you've got wavy/curly hair, you might even consider dropping shampoo completely and using conditioner only. Or conditioning twice: once with a cheapo and once with your regular. Here's a list of various conditioning methods:

C= conditioner, W= wash
(I use CWC, WCC, and a CWCC every so often)

CO: getting rid of shampoo completely and cleaning your scalp and length with cheapo C, finishing off with your regular C.
CWC: a cheapo C on the length before shampoo, then shampoo, then regular C after shampoo)
WCC: shampoo, then condition with two different kinds in a row (WCC)
CWCC: personally I work coconut oil through my hair before a wash. and then I shampoo it out. I'll finish that off with two different conditioners (one from the dollar store and another that I like)

All of these methods I use to keep my coarse and porous hair hydrated. I am Asian and I've found that my wavy/curly friends have the same hair needs as me-- the key thing here is moisture, moisture, moisture.

(2) Using a gentle shampoo with "sodium laureth sulfate" (Paul Mitchell and Tresemme has this ingredient I think. I use a Costco brand)
(3) No blow drying/blow frying
(4) No heat tools
(5) avoiding chemical processing
(6) Eating balanced meals, drinking enough water, taking multis and vitamin E
(7) Using hair friendly accessories and grooming tools (scrunchies, bandanas, headbands, hats, hair sticks.. the like) (seamless and hardwood combs)

Hope this helps!
Anais
