I heard that you can use soap as a residue free shampoo, i was wondering if thats true?? Cuz i think the conditioning and shining and all that crap that the shampoo does only makes my poofy problem worse, and i figure if i use soap it would get rid of that by allowing my hair to be more like when i just wash it without shampoo, if i do that my hair tends to lay down more and be less poofy

you gotta be kidding me.... soap. that is like one of the harshes stuff to be apply to your hair. unless you are a punk rocker with a low budget for hair styling products who uses a soap to keep its mohawk hard, stick to hair shampoo. have you tried baby shampoo, the no tears kind. i heard it leaves no residue to hair.

Hair has an acidic pH, and soap is a base (for those of you with chem background) Shampoo is adjusted to be between 4.5 and 5.5 pH... and this is also why vinegar rinses are good for hair, maintaining the acid level.
Acidity is important for hair and scalp because it prevents bacterial/fungal growth. Soap would give a likelier chance of getting scalp fungi or other such issues.
