I have no idea what has happened to the sides of my hair? My hiar is long and straight, about mid-back in length. I have noticed that when I put my hair up in a ponytail, the sides of my hair sort of bulge out, like I chopped my sides or something...almost like breakage on my hair. And then I noticed when I finish washing my hair, the sides seem to be a bit wavy or curly....but the rest of my hair is dead straight. I haven't done anything to it, no perms, straightners, any kind of treatment.....what is going on. Does anyone have any advice on products that might help the hair to grow or get healthy.....its very strange.....has this happened to anyone else?

Do you wear a ponytail very often? It could be breakage from wearing one too often and with non-hair-friendly holders.

Well I was wearing a ponytail holder to scruch up my hair....so that is a possibility.....do you have any suggestions for any products that might help to repair the damage.....I don't wear my hair up anymore, thinking that might give it a break in helping to repair the damage???

I don't know if it is the same thing but my hair has decided to change the direction it grows on part of my head. I have to wear it short now -of course, I am a guy and makes it a little easier.

When everything else is ruled out, sometimes hair does change drastically like that. Especially during stressful times or during adolescence if you are an adolescent.

My hunch is exactly what Harvestmoon said.

Goodgirl, look at the ends of the shorter hairs. Do they taper to a sharp point? or do they have a white dot at the end? Or do they just have a square end that looks "cut"? That might help you decide what the issue is. Also, if a person tends to divide their pony into two sections and "pulls them apart" to tighten the ponytail. That's got the same effect as backcombing and can cause breakage too. Those are just some possibilities for ya.

If you find that it's breakage, you'll just have to condition very well so you can prevent further damage, and choose your hair accessories carefully (no thin hair elastics, nothing with metal bits, nothing sharp like barettes)

HTH and a (((hug)))
