Maybe all you wonderful professionals can help me with this problem - I cannot for the life of me find a stylist that gives me the results I LONG for! I bring in pictures of what I want my cut to look like (picture Jennifer Aniston - not a hard cut) but when I leave the salon time after time it NEVER looks even remotely like the picture - basically I end up with layers, flips, too much taken off, etc. Can you give me any tips to help on my end? I do not have a stylist I frequent...which leads me to a different salon each time I want/need a cut. I go to high end salons - not the $12 haircut places. Should I call before I make an appt. with specific questions about stylists? It''''s so dissapointing to have a crappy haircut then have to wait 4 months for it to grow out and start all over...I''''m hoping you all can give me some pointers! Thanks!!!

Be very very specific. In addition to showing the picture, tell them you don't want fringe, layers etc. Think in advance of words that perfectly describe the cut you want and what your hair needs to get there. If it just needs a blunt trim on the ends to get it to look like Jennifer aniston when she had the one length do (I don't know what do she currently has), just ask for a blunt cut trim, no layers. You should always talk to the person who will be cutting your hair before you get in the chair, ask them exactly what they're about to do, and if you feel like they'll take unrequested liberties with your head, tell them you want to think about it and make an appointment for a later date. Then if you don't think they'll do what you want, call and cancel your appointment and try somewhere else. Remember that its your head and you have the right to have the final say, and no one should make you feel uncomfortable, or suggest that you don't really want what you asked for. If they don't like that, go somewhere that respects what you want as their customer.

Small addition to Susan's wise counsel:
never forget hairstylist are only human too ... They can only on very very rare occassions give a client the exact haircut they have on photo. The reason being difference in thickness, hairimplant, level of curls, etc... Unfortunately no one has the same hair, although people are put in categories.
However this shouldn't stop a stylist to point out this fact to you. And she/he should be able to give an indication what differences there might be between your picture and your probable resulting hairstyle. Ask for this feedback specifically if they don't offer it to you. When they can't, just walk out. Even 'lesser gods' work in expensive salons.
