Nothing very starling. It was mostly the Usual Suspects another year older and desperately trying for novelty.

Successes:

Cameron Diaz looked good after recent failures.
Katie Holmes with cute bangs looked ok.
A nice move for Angelina Jolie to go a shade lighter. What gets me over the last few years about AJ is that her skin has looked too shiny (did tonight too)
Natalie Portman looked beautiful without even trying much.
Rose Byrne combined her bob with a daring black dress: just about worked though I'm no real fan of her bob.

Not so good:

Kate Beckinsale lighter and with a kind of mini bumpit up front.
Victoria Beckham: What a bore! Why doesn't she just send life sized photos of herself? The usual scowl and falling away pose. Hair in a tight, boring updo.
Penelope Cruz: too short and too fussy.
Michelle Williams: like a wig stuck on her head that never changes.
Katy Perry: A blue bob (surprise, surprise).

Couldn't make up my mind about Miley Cyrus--I guess she looked great, but also startlingly different.

MARKS:

Innovation 5 from 10
Yawn factor 8 from 10

I would have to give Miley Cyrus and Katie Holmes thumbs up. The bangs look very cute for Katie, and Miley... she gets an impressed 'huh.' Looks very grown up now.

OH, I think her bangs look SUPER CUTE, especially with the long hair and high ponytail, I love the BLUNT bangs on her!!

Long with BLUNT bangs or ALL cut to lip length, I cant decide my favorite!

OMG people, please stop making such a big thing about stars getting bangs.  Yes, it's a change but it's little more than a big trim on the front part of the length...just my opinion.

P-nut, if you don't think bangs are worth talking about here, please supply us a list so we can follow your rules. Or maybe you're just wrong here.  Thanks for posting the photos.

P-nut, I think bangs are yes a very small section of hair obviously but it totally changes the girls appearance. Katie looks way different, I think bangs are a HUGE change on just about any girl especially going from none to short and blunt, I LOVE them and how easily they change the face and can easily be pinned back or side swept, they are so versatile. My 2 favorite looks are LONG with short blunt bangs or SHORT blunt bobs (angled and buzzed napes are great too as long as the angle is blunt), to me nothing is more neat and classy than a blunt haircut!

lovebobs, I agree 100% with everything you wrote about bangs. Well said! I'm always amazed at what a difference bangs make, and almost always for the better. They've been a trend (with variations) for a whole decade now, never seeming to lose their appeal, and I couldn't be happier.

I didn't watch the Oscars but seeing many of the post-event photos, I really haven't seen a single person whose hair was that impressive or memorable. As much as I like Katie's bangs, I am ready to be done with the ponytail as an option for formal occasions. (Note to celebs: if your style could also be worn to the gym or to a five-year-old's birthday party, it probably isn't right for the most glamorous event in Hollywood.)

Other styles seemed pretty but boring (Natalie Portman) or much ado about not much (fake bobs and everyone with a side twisted whatever - is this the limit of Hollywood creativity now?).

Didn't see anyone with a real lush, glamorous style that recalled the glamorous sirens of yesteryear. Looks like I didn't miss much after all.
