If you're like me, you're old enough to remember gorgeous redhead Khrystyne Haje, best known for being a brilliant student in the TV show "Head of the Class" and one of People Magazine's 50 most beautiful people. Here is a recent photo of her, showing her hair is as gorgeous as ever.
Until today, that is. Khrystyne was one of three longhaired women to agree to have their hair hacked on the Rachael Ray Show in an effort to gather hair for cancer patients who have lost their hair in a promotion somehow connected to Pantene. Khrystyne's hair was still extremely gorgeous after losing much of her length 2 feet and the beautiful curls were gone in her new style.
I had no interest in watching the show and stumbled upon the "after" video toward the end of the show. Of course they showed how amazing her hair was before the cut. It kind of wrecked my day.
Honestly, how many organizations are collecting hair these days?
Here's the makeover video, if you want to see it: http://www.rachaelrayshow.com/show/segments/view/three-long-hair-makeovers/ - http://www.rachaelrayshow.com/show/segments/view/three-long-hair-makeovers/
Feel free to spew at me. I can take it.

Kramer,Besides Khrystyne's makeover what did you think about the other two? I thought the other 2 was a big improvement. I didn't think Khrystyne's makeover was bad but wonder what it will look like if not straightened and also understand the long, curls "trademark" that you grew up on.

No spewing on you from this corner. I am beyond tired of ravishing locks getting hacked off to promote a corporation. Just one question: Why doesn't Pantene purchase ponytails from the unused portion of the massive Locks of Love warehouse? Answer: NO PUBLICITY for the company.
These women, especially Krystyne, looked awesome, though perhaps the less famous duo needed trims and slight re-stylings. Would I turn on the TV to see Krystyne BEFORE her chop? Of course. Now? Probably not. All three look good after the cuts, but all three now possess locks which do not separate them from the crowd. Bob

I thought Khrystyne Haje looked amazingly average after the cut. Although I thought it was a major improvement for the other two ladies...just MHO...

I agree with you, Jockey, about the other two women. Their styles were improvements. I am just sorry that they donated their length. I think that these styles would have looked spell-binding on both of them with their former lengths intact. As for Krystyne, you can't improve upon perfection, and her haircut proved that she is no exception. Oh well, what's done is done.

Krystyne's cut was an unfortunate downgrade. Why would you hack off long gorgeous curls like that for something blah and plain?
The other women looked better, but their cuts looked simply like hacking off the length with no change to the color, style, no layering, etc. Really, what's the point?
I also love the irony that Rachael herself and the Seventeen magazine woman both have long hair that stayed put, and the stylist was wearing a cap.

Well, if the hair never looks good, and this cut evens out the hair, and makes it look better, and the women like it better, that would be a good point...we must remember, it is not about what we want for the women, it is about what they want. We can like, or dislike their choices, but we need to respect their choices. My wife doesn't usually wear her hair the way I would like to see it, but I don't love her any less for it. If the women like their new styles, then I'm happy for them.

Fair point ssjockey. And I do agree that the cuts evened out their hair and made it look better. And certainly if the women like it better that's the most important thing.
My frustration is only that, if you're doing to do something so dramatic on national TV, why not take a step beyond just simply hacking off the length to the shoulders and consider other cut and style options that might be even more flattering, such as bangs, layers, highlights, curls, etc. The hacking process alone seems incomplete to me by itself.
Had they done that I believe it's more likely the women would have liked the end result more (even if I didn't, which I agree is ultimately immaterial).
