Hi Guys, I'm new to posting on a forum so please be patient with me!

My problem, i've been married for just over two years and about 6 months ago I was made redundant from my job.

Last Friday I was a bit down in the dumps and went clothes shopping with money we can't really afford and hubby (quite rightly) went ballistic.

I know how to get in his good books - he's always wanted me to cut my hair which i've always been too nervous to do, but this is an emergency!

I'm 24, slim, considered to be attractive, have brunette hair which is a bit past my shoulders, in my face and grown out so it does need cutting, and brown eyes.

What I'm after is hairstyle pictures that a 26 year old man will like. He tends to like graduated bobs, asymmetrical bobs and pixies, especially those with cropped napes. I think his ideal cut would be a pixie perhaps mostly off the face with all or most of the ear exposed and a cropped nape. However short and very feminine are probably the key attributes.

Any pics would be great, i've made an appointment for Friday AM, and I'll probably need a glass of wine or two! lol

Love that top pic, but any would be great.  Be sure to let us know what you decide and how your husband reacts.  Show pics if you can.

A before picture would be good to see the shape of your face, however how about this style you can have a clippered nape as well.

If you really want to get in his good books take him long to watch you having it cut.

Let us know how you get on and send some after pictures too.  I always love seeing attractive ladies with short hair :-)

Snipette nailed it with a perfect hairstyle...I would suggest the cut posted above.  Short and sexy....def. feminine.

Snipette...who is the picture of?

Thanks guys! when I saw the first cut that HAWG posted I thought wow wrong forum for me! But I keep going back to the 3rd pic with the clippered nape and I think that's amazing, so sexy with a slender neck which I have.

I also like the 5th pic that HAWG posted which has more texture. Do you think that it would be possible to keep some of the length on top, take the sides shorter - sort of pointy sideburns and around the ears, and I don't believe I'm saying this next bit, have the nape done like pic 3?

If so what guard for the nape, it looks like higher up the back it's shorn to the same length at the sides, but the bottom 1 1/2 inch or so is taken even tighter

Thanks guys you are great!

OMG! I can't take my eyes off pic 3!

The stylist can get the right length but it's probably a 1 and 1/2 to a 2.  It is an awesome haircut.  Have a great time with this; take him along; maybe even try a barbershop with a good looking barberette.

One of the good things about being unemployed is you have time on your hands! One of my friends came around this morning and I told her about cutting my hair and showed her your guys pictures.

She was shocked by how short I was thinking of going, but thinks that I have a great face for it. She then put my hair in a high ponytail and then put the rest up. She then did my makeup - I normally wear it very natural but she really went to town on me and I like the look. Must admit however I did think I looked nice with my hair down with the makeup as well!

She says my hairline at the nape is perfect to be shorn, she says I naturally have the V / point! She then said she knew the perfect haircut for me and came out with an actress I'd never heard of:

http://www.celebrityhairstylesnews.com/veryshorthairstyles/marleyshelton2.jpg

http://www.celebrityhairstylesnews.com/veryshorthairstyles/marleyshelton.jpg

The idea is to have some length at the front for femininity, but have the nape shorn something like HAWG's pic 3.

My hair currently is brunette as stated and probably a couple of inches longer than the same actress here:

http://images.askmen.com/galleries/celeb-profiles-actress/marley-shelton/pictures/marley-shelton-picture-1.jpg

My friend is convinced I will 'wimp out' so she says that she's coming to the salon with me to makesure I'm taken really short!

The plan of action is that she is coming round early tomorrow AM (with camera) she is going to do my makeup and take front, side and back photos of me pre haircut, and then have me 'totally scalped' as she puts it, and take front back and side pics of the new me!

I will then post them and you can tell me whether hubby is going to be able to leave me alone this weekend!

Final question I don't seem to be able to copy and paste images - I use a Mac - will I have a problem with photos!

I use a Mac and have no problems posting pictures. There is an icon that looks like a "tree" right beside the envelope icon and if you hover over it, it says "insert image". That is where you can insert the image to the post. Works great!!! Good Luck!!!

bnbivi00 - On mine I just have a hyperlink and emoticons insert next to the envelope sign - so is this a forum set up issue?

Sorry but one further thing I wanted to ask. When I have my haircut I'll be nervous so I want to visualise what is going to happen! I'm assuming that my hair will be gathered in to a ponytail and cut off. She will then section my hair and cut both sides short around / above my ears. The back I've assumed will be done with clippers rather than scissor over comb, because I'm going so short? Does this sound about right?

Don't use the quick reply box at the bottom of the page use the Post Reply option at the top right of each message.  This then gives you the Tree icon you use to insert pictures.
I hope all goes well and i look forward to seeing your amazing transformation.

As for the cut, unless you are donating your hair to Locks of Love or some organization like that, it won't be put in a ponytail and cut. They will probably just section the hair off, cut a large portion first, and then do the fine tuning. At least that is how I do it!!!!

Thanks snippette now i know how:

These are the pics I'm taking to the salon:

I like the bit of length in the bang and the fact that it completely exposes the ear the final pic is to show how short I'd like the nape and I accept she'll probably have to take my sides shorter to blend.

I like this cut how about you guys? If you find something similar but even nicer please post, more pics to take to the salon the better!

I am not sure if you realized this but picture 1, 2 and 3 from HAWGs original post are all the same girl. You keep saying you like Picture 1 but not much about 2 and 3. If that is the case, you might like some of the pictures I have included.....

You guys are too good!

Yes I realised HAWG's pics 1,2 and 3 were the same girl but that cut is too short for me but i loved the nape.

Your pic:

is the perfect combination of the 3 pics I was taking with me with the sides shorter to blend in to the back. God it's short but I know that hubby would adore that on me.

And then you post:

Which is even shorter and even more amazing! OMG OMG OMG what am i going to do?

I just saw bnbivi00 post and loved picture 1 and 4 and was about to send a post about these and saw you had already picked the same ones. Either one you choose you will look amazing. I don't know what style you will pick but what you are going to do is look super hot with an amazing short hair cut.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Snippette,
I love the style you posted.  Do you happen to have a pic of what the back looks like on this one?  If I ever got brave enough for a really short cut, I think that 1 is sooo cute!

A very quick update, but I will promise to come back to you the full details and pics.

So i've had my hair cut, and I don't recognise the person in the mirror! I took loads of the pics with me, but the cut is 90% this:

I do like it and both my Stylist and friend say I look gorgeous. I've also had lots of looks as I walked through town afterwards, however with hindsight I've had too much cut off in one go to feel comfortable with how I look currently.

I'll do a more detailed post later.

Don't panic, the main thing is you like it your friend and stylist love it, and i'm sure your husband the person you did it for will adore it.  If you have been getting admiring looks already I have a feeling your confidence will go through the roof.  I'm sure you will get used to it very quickly.  I'm glad you like it.  How did you feel when they clippered the nape?

Hi guys,

Firstly there is a slight problem with the pics, they are on the camera but when you put the SD card in to the USB card reader nothing is coming up so hubby is sorting it out tomorrow hopefully.

So my hair and my hubby's reaction:

I know the girl who cuts my hair pretty well, so i took a load of the pics and was intrigued to see what her reaction would be! (she totally hated the shorn nape pic, said it looked like a boy!) She was REALLY keen to take me short, and set about cutting my hair. She didn't use clippers at all but did the majority of the cut scissor over comb and I was amazed 1) how short she could take me doing this and 2) how quickly she took my hair off! My friend videoed this on her camera but i won't be sharing this.

I was really nervous and when I saw the right side - where she started - for the first time I about died. HOWEVER the thing that really gave me a wobbly was when she had finished cutting my hair and it was still wet, I looked like a little boy who had been given an ultra short hair cut. She dried and styled my hair and it did look nice but by this time I was thinking 'it's too short' which wasn't helped when my friend remarked that there was white skin on display which had obviously never seen daylight before!

We then left the salon and i felt very self conscious and was getting lots of looks (probably nice ones, but that didn't matter at the time), again it didn't help that my friend pointed out that I was obviously straight from a salon after a major haircut.

So i got home, put a nice dress on, re-applied my makeup, had my photos taken tried to upload them .... and started to feel a bit happier! I then got a phone call asking me to a job interview on Monday which is a follow up to one I went to about 4 weeks which I thought had gone dead. I was pleased to get a follow up interview and then thought 'they'll see my hair'!

Next stage was hubby coming home! To say he was surprised would be a dramatic understatement! He totally loves my hair and has made me feel like the most beautiful girl in the world, which obviously made me feel a lot better. Everyone who has seen my hair thinks it's amazing and I haven't had a single negative comment. I even plucked up the courage to Skype (Facetime) my mum this afternoon - not knowing how she'd respond - and she adores it, and even my dad was teasing me, which is a sure sign that he approves.

So I can officially say - I LOVE MY HAIR! Only one slight problem it's so short that it'll probably look its best in about a week, and then a week later it will probably look as if it needs trimming!

Hi Guys are there any IT gurus out there?

So I've got 12 photos and a video. When the SD card is in the camera (my friends) you can view the photos and video on screen. If you try to load the pics on to our Mac, iPhoto doesn't automatically open as it should do. If you go in to Finder, the main folder is there as is the sub folder with the files in, but they won't open!

My husband then tried the SD card in his company laptop (Windows) and the main and sub folder appear in Explorer, but no files!

He thinks that the SD card is probably corrupted because it hasn't been re-formatted. he thinks that if he reformats the card it will probably work fine afterwards but we'd loose the photos and the video - any ideas?

Hi there. Thanks for your detailed posts. Are you trying with the sd card in the camera or separately? It may work if you have the sd card in the camera connect the camera to your laptop. You may also need your friend's camera software although not always. This might work.

Is this aimed at me because I haven't been able to post the pics?

If anybody has got any ideas how to recover the pics I would like them as much as anybody. My husband is going to try using a scandisk recovery CD to see if that will do the trick.

Yes done that, my hubby is very in to photography he's got a Nikon DSLR.

However surely you guys would want to see the before as well as the after photos? Otherwise what's the point you just see a girl with short hair!

Also i think I told you guys after having my hair cut I got a phone call asking me back for a second job interview on Monday. So I turn up, i got a wow from the guy who interviewed me originally, he likes my hair, and yesterday I was offered the job!

I say just post the after pics for now and when you resolve the problem you can post the before pics, we all cant wait to see this amazing cut!!!

Surely someone who goes on this forum should be able to read and not make such a stupid comment!

As VickyCord's husband has stated the SD card is almost defiantly corrupted by the user not reformatting the card on a regular basis. If people don't want to lose their photos this is an essential thing to do and why on most decent cameras such as a Nikon DSLR you just have to press 2 buttons for about 2 seconds to do so.

The reason why the SD card won't read on to a Mac or a PC is likely due to part of the code which allows a computer to read it, is missing. I suggest VickyCord that you try the following using your Mac:

1) Drag files directly from Finder to the iPhoto icon on the dock.
2) If this fails does your husband have Photoshop or Aperture 2 on his Mac, if he does drag the files to either of these.
3) If that fails look at the file extension in Finder and try converting to another format
I would expect all the above to fail based on what has been stated, but it's worth a try. However
4) You have stated that you can look at the images on the camera. If you are lucky the camera will have a small internal memory, normally only about 32Mb but that should be enough. Go into the menu and settings and find the memory setting. If it exists you should be able to transfer the images from the SD card to the camera memory. Once you have done that re-format the SD card. The best way to do this is using Disk Utility on your Mac. Put the card back in the camera and transfer the images from the camera memory back to the SD card, and then download.
5) If this doesn't work it may be worth putting the SD card in your husbands camera to see if it works there, and / or put your husbands SD card in to the camera that took the photos to see if the card or the camera is at fault.
6) If its the camera give up, if it is definitely the card you have three further choices: a) Try a recovery disk, my experience is you'll spend a lot of time getting nowhere b) send the card to a specialist which will cost you a small fortune or c) give up!

Good luck!

Thanks Alex04

He'd already tried 1) 2) and 3) but hadn't thought of 4). However - hopefully I'll get this right - the camera writes to a 'buffer memory' only if there is no SD card in, and once you insert the SD in it writes from the memory to the card automatically. He said he could find no manual way to transfer from SD to memory.
5) My husbands SD card works in my friends camera, and the SD card from my friends camera works in his Nikon! However if you take further photos on my friends SD card on her camera they won't download - ahhhh!
6) He got nowhere with the recovery disk!

You need to go back and read the thread before making comments based on lack of knowledge!

My comments were not based on your opinion, just that you hadn't read or understood what had been stated.
