I am a 31 yr. old woman. I am married with small children. I have long hair nearly mid-back. I am Native-American so my hair is dark, straight and long. I got a spiral perm. I like the curls. Does anyone else have a spiral perm here on this long hair board??
How do you like it? Or would you consider getting a spiral perm if you don't have one yet??

When I had long hair I wanted to get a spiral perm. I wear a short pixie now so my hair is too short.
I never got around to it when I had long hair but I wish I had!

I bet your hair looks beautiful!

Hello Dakota Diva - and welcome to the boards.
I am Native American as well - Cherokee. My hair is dark, straight and long as well, and back in the 80's, I tried a spiral perm - it was beautiful for about 2 weeks, and then fell out - my hair adamantly refuses to hold a curl. I'm sure your hair is lovely with curls - post a picture - we'd love to see!

I've had three spiral perms(97, 99, 01). They never hold.

Here is a picture of the third(and last!!!)

This was taken only a week after I got the perm!

Here is the second perm:

This one came out the best(this was taken about a month after the perm), even though the same woman did the perm the third time.

I still have a tiny bit of the third perm left on my ends- stretched out waves. My hair is naturally stick-straight

I don't have a perm...my hair is naturally curly. I love long curls because most long hair I see is straight. I don't know that I would consider perming mine though if it was straight. I permed my hair during high school though (until I figured out that puberity decided to give me curls of my own)

I saw another post of yours that you are considering cutting it and I wondered why.

I've thought about it before, but I haven't ever done it. I have always been worried about frying my hair.
When I want curly or wavy hair now, I just braid it in several braids at night and use rollers on the ends. That works for me and its not permanent.

I had a spiral perm almost 2 years ago. It was so different from what I was use to. Anyway, I got use to it and liked it. After several months It was taking a little bit of an effort to keep it nice so I ended up cutting my hair about jaw length.
I thought never again BUT I now have another perm...softer and my hair is again shorter.
Perms can be time saving in the morning but can require you to maintain them as the get older...trims, conditioners, etc..
