I'm totally okay with this. Even if (somehow) she doesn't look good, it will take all of, like, three weeks until she's at Astronaut's Wife length again, at which she looked downright incredible.

One of the most beautiful women in the world, IMHO. I think she will look fantastic.

I agree with what Klaatu48 said; whenever I think of Charlize I think of her in the Astronaut's Wife; I loved that look on her. Can't wait to see pictures; really hoping for a video.

Charlize looked so great promoting whatever movie she is in that just came out. She did several of the late-night talk shows. If she truly got her head shaved, it was probably in her contract that she had to promote the current pic first.
I'm not a big proponent of hair shaving. I've had two female friends to it, supposedly to bring attention to the fight against cancer, and in both cases, their hair grew back much thinner. I still don't know how it brought more attention to cancer. We all know about it, don't we?
Anyway, I prefer to think of Charlize with hair, not without hair.

Kramer, you expressed what I've thought for a long time. I don't get the point. One woman, who will remain nameless, popped up on youtube with her super long hair that she was ready to shave for cancer. I asked her to reconsider. Frankly, I felt badly for her after it was done. Susanne Kalb was another one a few years back, although I'm not sure it was done for charity.
I thought that Charlize looked about as good as any woman I've ever seen with a short crop. But shaved? No thanks. Women may do as they wish, and *I* don't have to pretend that I'm supportive of it, I suppose. Bob

Wow, there's an irrational leap. To Kramer's point, it would make sense that she did it after the Prometheus and Snow White press tours since it inevitably would have made the conversation about her head and her NEXT flick rather than the two she was currently promoting. To be extraordinarily pragmatic, this is two weeks past Snow White's debut and one week after Prometheus. Given the speed of news cycles these days, the entertainment sites have already shifted from "the fairest in the land" articles with K-Stew and Charlize, and shifted to the strong female sci-fi leads articles. Given that the buzzcut is for the Mad Max reboot - another sci-fi/fantasy/action flick - it falls in a similar vein and doesn't disrupt the publicity "narrative" as if it had come on the heels of the Snow White premiere. Then again, that's all speculation, no matter how much sense it seems to make. As usual, JF

Think what you want, Arch, but if I produced Charlize's movies I'd want her looking gorgeous and have gorgeous hair. I wouldn't want her head shaved if it wasn't buzzed in the movies. It has nothing to do with credibility. I believe Charlize with beautiful hair would get more positive attention than Charlize with her head shaved. I'll bet it might even be in her contract.

So you would not put her in the Mad Max remake? What if the original script called for a character with buzzed hair, and Charlize volunteered to cut her hair for the role? You wouldn't cast her then? I don't think gorgeous hair would work in a post-apocalyptic world...

You didn't answer my question Kramer? I'd bet money Charlize wanted to cut her hair for the role. Look at Aeon Flux. She could just as easily wore a wig for that role, but didn't. How is her cutting her hair for this movie any different than Robert DeNiro gaining 40 pounds to play an aging boxer for 30 minutes of a movie, or shaving his head to play a mentally disturbed taxi driver? Actresses like Charlize Theron or Anne Hathaway truly didn't need to cut their hair for the roles they are playing right now, but they obviously WANTED to, for whatever reason. You may or may not like or appreciate the choice, that is every person's right and opinion. But you should respect their right to interpret the roles the way they see fit.

This question?
"So you would not put her in the Mad Max remake? What if the original script called for a character with buzzed hair, and Charlize volunteered to cut her hair for the role? You wouldn't cast her then? I don't think gorgeous hair would work in a post-apocalyptic world..."
I don't really care one way or the other. Honestly. Charlize has to work like the rest of us. I may prefer her with hair, but, well, whatever. However, I don't have to respect anything. An assortment of actors -- Charlize included -- are high school dropouts who went on to make millions of dollars by pretending to be other people. It's entertainment. She doesn't care about me. Scroll up. My issue was not that she buzzed her hair, but that she did it after having nice looking hair while promoting a movie. That's it.
Thank goodness for the Internet. Without it, whatever would we do with all of the free time we would have?

Charlize has the advantage of looking good with or without hair of any length.
I just saw her in Prometheus as Vickers and her hair looked great. For the movie she wore it pulled back in buns or longer sleek ponytails.
I do think she looks best lighter blonde, but she looked stunning in Astronaut's Wife with Johnny Depp.
I also loved her in The Italian Job. Her hair was great in that picture as well.
Maybe shaving her head will catapult her career in some way but she is beautiful enough to pull it off. It will be fun watching her grow it back or to see if she cheats with instant extensions or wigs. It's nice to see her back. She was MIA for awhile - at least in films.

"Maybe shaving her head will catapult her career in some way. "
I doubt it. Did it ever catapult anyone's career? Demi's career went down hill (not, I think because of the buzz, but it sure didn't help). Natalie and sigourney simply did it for the movies they were in at the time and I don't think it had any effect one way or the other. Maybe the same with Anne H--and probably CT too. In fact, as is normal in Hollywood (given the emphasis on youthful beauty), CTs career is already somewhat in decline--and this cut will not have much effect one way or the other.

"CTs career is already somewhat in decline"
Her movies this year have earned more than any year in her career, ever, by a fairly large margin. Last year she had critical acclaim in a couple of small movies, including Young Adult.
She has never really been a movie star in the sense that, say, Tom Cruise and Will Smith are - almost no women in Hollywood that dostuff other than romcoms are. But her roles in big movies has been on an upswing.Which, actually, is the opposite of a decline.

That's probably true. Or to put it another way, because her career was never THAT big in the first place it's easier to buck the usual trend.

Demi Moore took a step away from acting after GI Jane, because she had three young children at home. Sigourney shaved her head when she was in her 40's. That's a tough time for actresses, since there are far less parts for women over 40. Yet she's worked fairly continuously since then.
If an actress is successful getting a haircut won't help or hurt their career. If she does so for a movie, e.g. Natalie Portman, people may see her in a different light. But that has more to do with the part and her performance. No one is casting Rooney Mara because she cut her hair, but they might because she presented a different look and range of acting that enables people to see her as right for their movie.
If you have short hair and they want you to have long hair, they'll give you a wig or extensions. That's what they do in nearly every Keira Knightley period piece movie. Look at the Avengers. If I remember my comics right, the Black Widow had long hair and Maria Hill had short hair. In the movie, it was the other way around.

Call me unsurprised, Rayman. If Judith were in a stage play, performing every night, as did Judith Light, shaving would be a must. But to buzz it off for a one-time shot is ridiculous, IMO. Jane Seymour's career and artistry didn't suffer a bit when she wore a bald cap in a Nazi concentration camp film.
I can't blame Charlize for being anxious to grow her hair out. Those locks were really impressive!

The woman has practically gone into hiding since she went bald. To me, this isn't the mark of a woman "happy" with her decision. I think it's the expectation of actors today that one must take on every possible physical characteristic of the subject to relate. As I stated, Jane Seymour kept her hair, and she was wonderful in the role. I think it's silly to worry about a little ridicule that a few elitist snobs in the arts might hurl her way. What's done is done, and I wish her well. She seems like a truly nice person.

She hasn't. I mean, there were photos of her almost daily before she went to Africa to film. Which is where she is now.
Secondly, that story sources the National Enquirer, which is pretty much the definition of an unreliable source.
Now given her hattedness, I suspect she doesn't like it, but this is all ridiculous amounts of hyperbole. I suppose you hate it when actresses grow their hair out for roles, don't you Bob?
