Washing your waves is not as complicated as people make it seem. All it takes is a little knowledge on how to maintain your hair. You can easily do this by brushing in the direction of your wave pattern while washing. I use a very good quality product specifically made for washing waves which is called http://www.wavebuilder.com/35907detail.html - Wash in Waves Shampoo (Shout out to WaveBuilder!!). There are other products just as good but I find Wash in Waves to work the best. Here’s how I do it:

Apply a dime size amount to damp hair and begin shampooing. Smooth it in the direction of your wave pattern with your fingers until your hair is completely lathered. Then begin brushing or combing in the direction of your wave pattern while making sure your hair is kept damp during this process. If you decide to use a rat tail comb, as I do, it isn’t bad to go “ATG” (Against the Grain). Going “ATG” is good because you’re allowing the shampoo really get into the roots of your hair. Next step is to rinse your hair thoroughly with warm water but continue to brush at the same time. After you’re done gently towel dry your hair in the direction of your wave pattern. A lot of people air-dry their hair but I find that it ends up getting extra frizzy. Unfortunately, brushing after doesn’t seem to do much. So gently drying your hair with a towel is key.

After you’re done with the shampooing stage, I recommend using a product that adds moisture. http://www.wavebuilder.com/36711detail.html - Cocoa & Shea Wave Butter is a great one. When you’re done applying the product to your hair, continue to brush until your hair is fully dry. You can decide to durag it or keep brushing until completely dry. A common question people ask me is how often they should repeat this process and I’d recommend doing this every three days. Some people only rinse their hair every three days but that’s not good hygiene at all! You want to be rinsing and brushing every day. On the third day is when you shampoo it. Now that I’ve reviewed the steps on exactly how to wash your hair, hope this helped you to keep your waves looking great.
