but I went and had all my layers cut out today. It's just grazing my shoulders, so no french braids for a while. It does look a lot healthier and less straggly. I just want to say that I am very happy you all are here so I can keep the whole experience in perspective!
I went to the beauty school, as usual, and ended up with a new student; her instructor cut the bottom line of my hair; that's how new she is. She was so careful and did such a good job, exactly what I wanted! She was the sweetest thing, and before she moved on to the next step she had her instructors check me!
I know doing this would give some folks a case of nerves, and it did take a while, but I figure everyone has to start somewhere.
Have a good weekend everyone.
Jean

Hi Jean!
How much was cut off of the longest layers? Removing the layers to get to one-length before growing out sounds like a brave move. I'm glad to hear that you are happy with the healthier look of it. And I'm sure you'll be able to braid your hair again soon! Also, glad to hear that your experience at the beauty school was a pleasant one. Now that your hair is all one-length, you can probably go longer between trims (and of course, have much less trimmed off!).

I lost about four inches, but it doesn't feel like that much, if that makes sense, probably because it's still long enough for a ponytail. I had it blunt cut straight across. It doesn't tangle as badly as it did, and I don't have the shorter layers that seem to split faster than the long length. It gives me an opportunity to put some of my smaller hair accessories into use, and I figure it'll be as you say, the braid will be back soon enough. The ends were pretty brassy from old color, and this cut revitalizes the color enough to buy time between touchups.
I've been pretty lucky as far as stylists are concerned; even the one who cut my hair at Navy basic was pretty cooperative.
Happy Monday!
Jean

Sounds like your trim was good all around.
That you have found stylists who honor your requests to trim exactly what you ask for is good to hear, Jean.
