I know this is the wrong palce to get support for a short cut, but I relate to people here more since I'm a fan of long hair. I used to bleach my hair 2 years ago so I still have somewhat damaged ends, but nothing too unbearable. To disguise them, a recent stylist gave me a cut where I ended up with the top layers almost at shoulder length, and the bottom a couple below, tapered. It's an alright haircut, but I've always been into one length hair, especially on me. I'm wondering if I should just be bold and get my hair cut to just below my shoulders. I take such good care of my hair now that I probably wouldn't need to trim it again until six months from now, and that way I could have a clean slate of all one length hair. On the other hand, I'd be sad to give up my progress. My goal is to have at least bra strap length hair, but I want it to be nice looking. What would you do in my position?

Jenna,
I can see where you're coming from. Healthy hair looks better than unhealthy hair. If you are having problems with your ends, then it would probably be the best thing to cut them off. I did that about this time last year. I had several inches cut off of my hair.
Good luck, and keep us posted!

I have the same problem as you, I'm growing out permed & dyed hair. It is damaged. I'm so sick of the splits & white dots (breakage).

But, I am slowing cutting off hair instead of all at once.

I can't bear to lose any length

If your hair grows relatively fast I'd say go for it. It will probably make you feel better to see healthy hair. If your really attached to lenght though, like I am, do the slow cutting method instead of all at once. Whatever you do good luck.

Thanks for your quick responses. My hair doesn't look unhealthy at all, but it is more the style of the hair cut (too many layers IMO) that I don't like. I asked my mom and sister what they thought, and they actually both happened to like my haircut just fine. Since it looks good and I often get sad after cutting my hair dramatically, I'm going to leave it long. In about 5 months it might be at bra-strap length!

Hi Jenna,

I don't think you can go "wrong," whatever you choose. The end result will be the same.

I understand your reluctance to lose healthy hair. In my case I allowed the hair to grow longer as the priority; growing out the layers was a secondary consideration (and it wasn't until waist-length when the layers were all caught up).

Your hair must grow really fast -- luck you! Keep us informed.
