Is your boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, or partner supportive about your long hair or long hair goals?

My boyfriend is really encouraging and sweet about how I want to grow my hair longer. He even brushes my hair sometimes. I don't really know if he has a real preference on hair length, but I'm glad to know he's excited about it too. I was also talking to a couple guys at work today (one of them actually had waist length hair), and I told them how I was growing my hair out. They both said it would look really good, so it was fun to hear that.

You know, my husband was always supportive of my trying to grow my hair long until I stopped coloring it. I used to be brunette - then had blond highlights put in so the grey could come in more naturally and now am almost all white. It has taken about a year for this process. My hair is healthy and well cut, but curious how guys don't like their wives to look as old (we're the same age and he is greyer than me) as they do. Vanity, vanity.

I'm glad you have so much support Jenna - I'm sure it'll help you to reach your goal/goals.

I don't have a significant other, my family are indifferent and my friends tell me to cut my hair. Darn. Still, who needs "real-life" friends when you have online friends, eh?

psimons, I know what you mean. The, undoubtedly most annoying bit, is that men can actually look more attractive as they age. No woman would be described as haggard and deshevelled and desirable in the same sentence. It's so mean.

Yes enfys, it does help to have the encouragement. I made sure to tell the guy from work that I liked his hair that way, and he told me a lot of people have advised him to cut it. He wears it in a neat ponytail, so I don't see why it would bother anyone. Anyway, your friends must either be jealous or are just missing out. My best friend actually has BSL hair, so I guess it helps that she loves having long hair too.

My significant other likes my hair long but he doesnt really mind either way. my parents are very supportive of me growing my hair long. I went through a bit of a phase in the past few weeks where I wanted to shave my head! my bf said go for it!! but my mum was disgusted I was really hurt and shocked at her reaction she gave me the biggest lecture and was so mad she swore her head off!

Wow, krzysztof... that's quite a "phase" and turmoil with your mother you just went through.

Welcome, P Simons! Your hair sounds beautiful. How long is it, may I ask?

Enfys, I can understand your frustrations. Any more, most of my friends are supportive if not appreciative of long hair (mine, and in general).

Dave - my hair is shoulder length right now and I really don't know how long I'll go. I am able to wear it up in a variety of updo's and am happy with that. Only time will tell I guess

My boyfriend doesnt care what lenght my hair is but he likes it shorter than or at tailbone lenght. Any longer and he thinks its in the way and all over the place. but hed never tell me to cut it or anything. In general though he prefers very short hair on girls. Ill never have very short hair.

My parents and sister want me to keep my hair stylish and short. By stylish I mena they would like to see some sort of cut instead of one lenght.

My boyfriend prefers my hair long. He was the one that suggested I grow my hair. He suggested that I grow out my bangs also. At first, I didn't like the idea... I have always had shoulder length hair but I gave in and said I will try and if I like it, I will keep it long. I loved it and so did a lot of other people. I guess I was just afraid of change and if it weren't for my boyfriend, I would probably still have short hair.

My husband wants me to keep my hair long (it's slightly below bsl) and makes a sad face whenever I speak of cutting it. But he also likes me to wear it up best--which kind of seems silly to me. But he doesn't like it up tight, he likes it up and all poufy-messy. When we're getting ready to go out, if I have it down, he'll say, "you're not going to put your hair up?"

Go figure!

Hi P Simons! Happy growing and styling!

Erinlynn, it sounds like you don't have much or any real-life support for your long hair. From the pictures you've shared, it looks wonderful on you.

Crazy Girl, your hair is beautiful!

Elissa... your husband might like your hair long because that means more hair for those poufy-messy updos he loves. To each their own and God bless you for your generosity.

My husband says that he likes my hair any way that I like it, as long as I'm happy. But, I truthfully think he's the most partial to it longer. So, yes, he's very supportive of my growing it long.

BTW, I must be slow because I'm not sure what BSL hair is. Does that stand for below shoulder length or bra strap length or something else? I've seen that abbreviation a few times on the boards. Thanks!

Life is wonderful...when you have a cat. But even better when you have a cat and good hair!

Dave thanks for the compliment =)

Elissa, poof poof!! Thats unusual to hear of. I wonder why the poofyness is so attractive to him. Usualy you hear that a guy like it up becasue you can see the line of your neck better so I wonder why the poofing in particular holds such charm to him.

Personaly i think messy updo are flattering too...but alas I dont have good hair fo that. Mines too sleek to poof unless if ive curled it. Sometimes I wish i had slightly curled hair...

Yes Erinlynn, I think he likes my neck. Also, I have a small face (small bones in general) and a lot of thick hair, and I think he thinks all of that hair can be overpowering. He says you can see my face better with my hair up, that I look younger, etc.

He sure knows how to get what he wants :)

Thanks also, Dave :)

And yes Reenie, generally BSL = bra strap length on this board. I'm not sure that's fair to the men on the board though.

That might be about mid-back for most people, I think.

Yes, Elissa, we can say "chest-length"

I am happy to say my husband supports whatever hairstyle I choose to wear. If he didnīt, I guess he wouldnīt be with me. Still, I can see that he really loves the long hair. He even puts up with the extra hassle, nightcaps and such. Last time we stayed in a hotel, they didnīt have a hairdryer (!), so I had to wash my hair in the evening, and slept with my head by the footend of the bed, to let it hang over the edge of the bed, to dry. Not one single comment from him.

Viktoria, ah! I cant imagin wearing nightcaps and hanging my head over the bead. I never use a hairdrier and i have on many occasions slept with wet hair all night. Its not that horrible =)

The nightcap doesnt sound like fun though.

Don't have a partner right now, but my ex-bf adored my hair (always playing/sniffing with it) and he was looking forward to it getting longer. Even bought me hair toys as a gift...without any prompting on my part. Great guy!

My ex-ex was into cutting it in a big way. not good.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that having lived through both extremes, a pro-longhair bf = happy Uzi .

Yes ErinLynn, the nightcap is not sexy, but it works to keep the hair tangle free. And sleeping with wet hair is usually a great way for me to ensure a bad hair day! And a bonus: when itīs cold, the cap can cover the ears as well, very cosy and comfy...
