This weekend I went burgundy. When you walk into a hair peice shop with long hair they all look at you funny as if to say "what your YOU doing here? Your hair is sufficiently long and pretty. What could you need here?". Anyways i bought some red hair hair color spray that washes out and I bought a cute burgundy colored tail. On V-day i went dancing with friends and wore my cherry color style. Everyone thought it was a very flattering color on me and some suggested i dye my hair that color perminately or semi perminately. My bf liked it alot too but he didnt want me to dye it perminately that color. Does anyone know if semi-perminate colorings have any lasting effects? I would concider tinting my hair cherry/burgundy like that but if it leaves any trace of coloring in my hair perminately I dont want to do it. I like my natural hair color and dont want to perminately alter it even if its just a hint of another color. But the burgundy was very fun and i would like to try a red highlite tint too... So does anyone know much about the lasting effects of coloring useing wash out colors? Will a tinti of it stay in my hair perminately or can i get my natural color back after it washes out? Also is it unhealthy for your hair? I appreciate everyones help. My hair is just too long to try something with out asking questions first even if its a semiperminate wash. |

| I am by no means a color expert, but I have some life-experience under my belt. I know that semi-permanent color is just that, it will leave a trace of color in your hair. There are people who have dyed their hair with the darker shades only to find out that the color does not in fact wash away. I think it depends on how porous a person's hair is... the more porous it is the more it will grab a hold of and keep that color you deposit on it. For instance, if you were to use a semi-permanent dye over previously colored hair the semi-permanent tends to become permanent. But it has it's benefits in doing that... it can brighten up and take away brassiness. I just used a product from the Paul Mitchell line over my recently dyed hair... great results. My advice, if it is worth 2 cents, is do a strand test. See if the color on that lock of hair washes out in 3, 4 weeks, or longer. Haste makes waste so take time to see the end results before you do all of your hair. Do the section at the nape of your neck and when you wear it up in a bun, or braid it, you will have this lovely burgundy streak. |

I agree on the strand test advice. Also, if your hair is dry/not in good condition it will be more porous and thus take in more color. If your hair is pretty dark, you shouldn't have a big problem with semi. If your hair is light, you may NEVER get the red out! So definitely do a strand test. And let us know how it goes, please. Remember, we who have long hair have a lot of time and care invested in it. It's not like you can simply cut the color out! not without losing substantial length, anyway. LOL Gord, My boyfriend was the only one of my friends who didnt want me to color it. He likes it best natural...but he didnt mind the temporary change. The rest of them think I should color it...but then again maybe they all just want me to lose my natural coloring...or something. |

I agree with Wittils. I've used semi-permanent and permanent hair colors. The semi-permanent definately has permanent aspects to it that do not wash out. I don't know anything about the spray in/wash out types of color. With hair as long as yours Erinlynn you will need at least 2 boxes of haircolor. Good luck!
