It sounds like just what I used to do when I was younger; put on a cap and let my hair dry and it became straight, LOL!
I am a male with black hair curly to wavy but I like to have it straight as it looks nice and it takes little to style BUT you must use the right products to maintain it and keep it healthy.
I have had my hair straightened 5 to 6 times but what worked best for me these 2 products,
ARTec's texturesmooth, which is only done by professional salons.

I liked the result of both of them actually.
ARTec's texturesmooth made my hair a lot more straighter but Phytospecific Phytorelaxer made it so incredibly shiny and silky but not as straight as ARTec's texturesmooth.
