I a few tips
After washing your hair and towel drying it, wear a cap for a few hours, your hair wont be too puffy but it last only a few hours after that
After washing your hair and towel drying it, wear a cap for a few hours and then apply gel
After washing your hair, apply super very hard gel on your hair a combed it, then spray it with hair spray, it stay down until you wash your hair
Cut your hair off every month
Have your hair chemicaly relaxed

Trust me I have done all of this and it works a degree but chemically relaxed hair is the best way to go
Just find a good salon to do it :)

have the same problem. I am guy, 17, with very unmanagable hair. It is very wavy, thick(many strands) and puffy. There is no way to style it. I been thinking about getting it chemically relaxed, but I am not sure if I can have this done because of the length. It''s short. Can still have it done?

Well how short is short?
I had my hair chemically relaxed when its an inch long
It was nice but it wont last long because the new hair growth cause it to curl
To have chemically relaxed hair at least have 4 inches of hair
You can try 3 inches but it onloy last for two weeks before the new hair starts curling it up

Right now my hair is about an inch long. So if I relax it now, it will problaby last a week and I would have to apply the treatment again? I really don't want to wait and grow out my hair because will look nasty. I guess I'll have to relax it as it grows...

Well you could do that Icyfire but it depends on your hair
I have asian hair. Our hair is thicker, and more resistant to chemicals than caucasian hair.
You see I have done what you did. I had my hair relaxed when it is 1 inches long and continued to relax it every 10 days. My hair felt normal for the first 3 application, after the 3rd application my hair felt drier but it was still manageble. Even at the 6th application it was ok.....kinda.
so you could do that if you keep it a short 3 inches.
try to use a good shampoo.
I did it DIY so it wont burn a hole in my pocket
Instead it burned my scalp a few times
You have to remember that you are working with very harsh chemicals that will burn you if you are not careful

Thanks claribuzz. For some reason I always thought all Asians had thin, straight hair. Anyway, what relaxer did you use and was it sufficient? I do not know if I should do this myself or have a salon stylist do it. Salons are pretty pricy. My closest salon charges 65+ for the treatment. Sigh...

well it looks asian hair looks fine because of its colour. If you compare it side by side with caucasian hair you will see the difference.
If you are going to do it every time your hair curls a bit, you are better of doing it yourself. If anything goes worng you can always cut it off and start over. Its a luxury men have that most women don't have. Actually I uses the same stuff that my salon use. It was in chinese so I have no idea what is in it. I just followed her instructions and do it my self. Trial and error style. Like I said I had burned part of my scalp in this process. It was a minor burn that heals fast. You really need to get a hang of it. I did my hair like 20 times now and I relaxed my friends hair like 6 times already. So I know what I am doing. I have faced all the problems cause by using relaxers and had faced them. If you want to do this DIY you better be prepared for the worst.

But if you get it right, it will be great. I could do spikes, out of beds, and even part my hair. Something that just cannot be done if you have puffy hair

I have very thick, coarse, dry, and puffy hair, too. I am trying to grow mine a little, as well. And yes, I have found that pomade seems to work wonders. It's expensive, but get the American Crew brand. You only have to use a tiny bit and your hair stays down all day. Plus, you can run your hands through your hair without ruining it!
