Hi. I currently have short and very curly hair. I discovered this when I decided that I would let it grow and eventually it started to look like an "afro" as it became longer. Following the "grass is greener" logic, I would rather my hair be straight. At the very minimum I would like to get it to grow down, not up. Please advise, thanks.

You can have your hair relaxed. Its is a chemical process where you break the bonds of you hair (some called it rebonding) and connect them back again to your desired shaped. They usually use ammonium thiogulate or some other very alkaline chemcal in the 11 or 12 ph value. Its take around 20 ro 30 minutes for this process. Then you apply sodium hydroxide to neutralize it (thus called a neutralizer) which is acidic. I heard hairboutique.com sells this wonderful product called phytorelaxer that does the job well. You could always go to a salon and have it done, but DIY is cheaper and provides the same results most of the time

Thanks for the info. I have a question, however, after reading about such products.
I understand that there are (at least) three different ways to straighten curly hair permanently, including the Photo relaxer, the other (chemical) procedeure, and the Japanese hair straightening.
I read on many sites that only one method can be used and that even after much time has passed it is unadvisable to use different ones. So, I am looking for information that can help me compare the 3 (if not more) different methods.
Most important to me is knowing the amount of risk involved in each process, the amount of damage each process is likely to cause, the cost of each one (considering how often the procedeure would need to be done), and the effectiveness of each one.
I've heard a lot of people advising against any kind of straightening process. Do people with straight hair that desire curly hair have safer procedeures to deal with? It almost seems better to have straight hair since it can easily be curled, giving one the choice, and that this is very common.

Well the kinds of system that I know is the cream or gel kind and the japanese system. The Japanese Straightning ( JS ) system is probbly one of the best kind. It uses both the relaxing cream and the straightning hair iron. This process takes about 4 to 6 hours to do. go to thermalreconditioning .com to find out more. JS system is no doubt the most expensive because of the time and the amount of chemical they use but it makes your hair soft and straight.
IF you had your hair relaxed before you cant have it relaxed again because the relaxed hair will be damaged a lot BUT if you keep you hair short say like 4 inches, its ok to to another relaxer process.
Just remember to get the best result you have to fork out a lot of cash.
