Ok, I heard that if you get a trim it helps your hair grow faster. Is that true ???How ???

Not true!
Trimming can help if the hair isn`t in good condition, but cutting always always makes it shorter - and *can`t* make it grow any quicker! Stylists would *like* us to think trims are necessary to growth no doubt - don`t they have a vested interest though?

Exactly!! Unless you have a lot of split ends, don`t cut it if you want to see real growth!!Or it will take forever!!
It is better to wait like 3-4 months then get a trim. ( at least until it gets to a long enough length where you can get back to the normal 6 -8 week wait between trims)

Who knows. We do hear it often. A few years ago I came across this young woman who had long hair down to her buttoch. She told me that she was going to get it cut much shorter and explain that when the hair doesn`t feel that heavy weight it quickly catches up to its original length before cutting. In her case it seem to be true because I really saw for my own eyes how quickly her hair grow. The same rule same to apply to my children`s sitter.
Also when that stupid stylist cut off 6 inches of my hair for whatever reason I did quickly catch up to my original lengh and my hair normally grows extremely slow so now I am not so convince that trims doesn`t promote growth. Personally I normally see a stylist every 6 months or so. Split ends do seem to travel up the shaft and would certainly ruin a lot of length if someone doesn`t take care of it.

Wait a second, Diane. Didn`t your hair grow back quicker because you took hair vitamins!?

If you`re going to grow your hair out, I strongly advise no trims unless the split ends get so bad that you can`t live with them.

Hello Duke:

I `ve been taking hair vitamins for years. At times I am not so loyal about them and forget. At times I won`t take the vitamins for months and then decide to go back on them.
A while back I asked this stylist to only trim 1/2 inch and she wasn`t experienced and ended up taking off 6 inches. I was very peaved and had it out with the manager. The posts are still in this section to the reasons why I went to someone new etc.
I was very discourage because I really thought it would take a good year or more to catch up but no in a matter of a few months I already saw a big difference. We will never know what caused my hair to grow faster but it does make me seriously wonder because of what happen and what other ladies who do grow their fast and their claims that cutting does promote faster growing.
Who reallly knows. All I know is that it is important to me to have trims about every six months because a split end can easily take out a huge section of length if it is not taken care of right away.
Duke I am not saying that cutting does encourage growth but what I am saying for whatever reason it happen to me. It makes three years or so that I`ve been on the vitamins and I don`t seem to really see a diffirence until that day with the stylist.

if you don`t take care of your hair, you may want to get trims or else it will break. it doesn`t really make it grow faster, it just makes it stronger. however, it seems that my hair does grow faster now vs. when i skipped trims for over a year, but it`s probably just because now it`s healthier. I think it`s not the issue of trimming, but the condition of the hair that makes it grow, or appear to grow, faster.
