I`d like to know how many hair do you lose every day ?
For me the average is about 75-90/day. I easily lose 300-400 hairs when I wash them 1 time/week. ( brushing, washing, combing after washing ) But on the other 6 days, it`s about 20 / day.
This rate is the same all year long. And they grow about 5 inches/ year.
I`m a little bit anxious with it , but it seems to be my personal rate.
It gives me the feeling that I will never be able to have very long, thick hair.
( Actually midback, hope for waistline lenght )
Thank you beforehand for answer ! Bye !

Hi Rubis,
My average fallout rate is a lot lower. Probably 50-75 on wash day (once per week), Otherwise I probably lose 10-20 per day (at least, long strands... no idea how many that are so short I don't even notice them).
I supplement my diet with vitamins/minerals/herbs/Rx to achieve the low fallout rate. Works for me.
I've done alright, so far, as you can see the length I've grown from my teeny tiny little picture.
How thick is your hair? I'll be it'll grow to your waist, in time. Patience and gentle care are your best bets.

How can you telly what your hair loss/fallout rate is? I am also interested in knowing what supplements you suggest to help hair be healthy?
Thank you!

Thank you DaveDecker for answer.
My hair is not very thick like I would like it to be, but not thin. Because it`s wavy/curly it looks more thick.
Probably, smoking doesn`t help me.
I have no problem with thyroid gland.
I take multivitamins ( not every day ) and other supplements ( biotin, lecithin oil, vit. E, flaxseed oil, brewer`s yeast, wheat germ oil, selenium, vit.C, evening primrose oil. ( one capsule of each one ).
I handle my hair with gentle care. Untangling every day with fingers, brushing carefully before washing ( one or two times a week )
Never blow dry, never color, satin pillowcase. I tie my hair loosely with soft bands or make a bun with hairsticks.
Brown hairs with some grey. It tends to be dry. But I use as a leave-in conditioner a mix of water, oil, glycerin in a spray bottle. I use hair masks or hot oil treatment occasionally. I`m forty years old and female.
Anais, for calculating fallout rate, I simply count them. I use a thing that collects hair in the bath drain. If during a simple day, I lose 20 hairs , and when washing 350, therefore, 6 x 20, + 400 = 520 / 7 = 75 / day.
Voilā !
Bye !

Too many! Itīs so f****** annoying. They say itīs "normal" and so it has to go, itīs "hairīs renewal process". But how can you talk about hair renewal process when the hair is falling away?? The root of your hair is getting new all the time when it grows so the hair is renewing itself WHEN IT STAYS IN YOUR HEAD AND KEEPS GROWING. And the top of the hair just HAS TO BE old when itīs long, because the hair doesnīt grow so quickly.
What would we miss if any hair wouldnīt get loose before it reaches your knees? Those who want to have their hair shorter have to get it cut in any case. But now when the system is what it is, some people can never have long hair because their stupid hairs have to fall away when they reach the bra line. Bitter? No...
The iron might help those who are loosing abnormally much hair. That helped me remarkably a few years ago when I was loosing my hair especially much. Another mineral like that is zink (thatīs in many multivitamins). Also sulfur can be helpful, that you can find from MSM in suitable form.

Letīs add that I cannot count how many hairs I lose daily because I donīt notice when it falls ... now Iīm possibly having the phase when a lot of my hair gets loose in the same time. I guess itīs the growth cycle thing, you know? Or so it feels. I just find my hair everywhere and thereīs plenty of hair in my brush. It has come there quickly. Why oh why. What do I benefit from loosing my hair?
Sorry, too much complainig, Iīm healthy anyway (and married ).

Hi Anais, I take saw palmetto, GNC Ultranourishair, Horsetail Herb, zinc, and a regular one-a-day multi vit/min.
Rubis, it sounds like overall your regimen is excellent... but the cigarettes have to go. They are so bad for you in every regard. I read recently that Horsetail Herb has some amount of nicotine. Curious, I opened the bottle I have and took a sniff. Woah! The smell faintly reminds me of cigarettes. So that's what nicotine smells like (?). Anyway, the recommended dosage is 6 capsules a day. I only take one, but maybe the max dosage would (a) help your hair, and (b) help replace the nicotine from the cigarettes you're no longer smoking... and the money you spend on Horsetail Herb comes from what used to be your cigarette fund.
Helen, you are so right about maintaining hair's "volume" as it gets longer. A long-term, healthy life regimen (along with gentle haircare) gives you the best chance at having the best long hair you can have.

Hi Gilles,
Yes, the horsetail herb contains silica. The silica is the key ingredient. I use "GNC Herbal Plus (R) Fingerprinted (TM) Horsetail Herbal Supplement"
Whew, that was a long name. Must rest typing hands now.

Hi,
I found that horsetail herb and silica gel give me itches. I`m sensitive with many herbs. But there is silica in those foods :
rice, oat, wheat, ( complete cereal ) leguminous, apple, lettuce, parsley, cucumber, almond and other nuts, spinach and nettle. Nettle contains the most silicium.
