I am trying to grow my hair long but policy at work says i can only have my hair to my collar i contacted the EEOC and they said that they are allowed to do that cause it is a part of dress code policy. I also contacted a lawyer and he saiud they are also allowed to do that and there is nothing i can do about it. I would like any suggestions that any one has please. I do not want to quit my job i need the money. Please respond on the thread or email me at charlie5778@aol.com put hair in the subject title. Thank You William

Well, if it is legal, as you lawyer said, then I guess you have no choice but to quit or abide. Money is one thing, but how well can you really feel about working for someone who controls you like that?

I remember some twenty years ago, as an exchangestudent in the midwest USA, being told that my underwear was not "decent" enough! I have seldom been as humiliated, but I respected their wishes. At the end of the year, I had a bra-burning-happening, at it was great release!

I know you can legally challenge it unless your workplace has legitimate reasons for long hair concerns.

i.e. you are a fireman, and need to wear a gas mask, working in the food industry, or very legitimate reasons like that.

Also, the military, it's expected to be turned into a tool.

Beond that, it should be allowed, the 2 problewms being hair care, keeping it clean, and the fact that legally challenging stuiff takes time.

My advice is to keep your job but hunt for new ones and take a hike ASAP.

I hate all of the following and lots more : Fundamentalists, racists, sexists, fascists, ageists (people saying seniors = senile , kids = stupid , 18 = immature or a combo of them), and bigots for causes yet to receive their own designation.

Hi William (Charlie),

I agree with Kintaro. There are companies that will hire long-haired men. Yes, it's true. These companies are actually more concerned about having effective employees than they are with having an army of short-haired clones. (Imagine that -- management being more concerned with the business than with their employee's hairstyles!)

I've had several jobs while my hair has been long and my hair length has never been an issue.

I hope this helps you.
