Hey. I'm a 13 year old guy and my parents were both born in India. I live in Australia and consider myself an aussie kid. I have thick hair, like i mean that it is the opposite of fine. I get hair cuts with hair clippers and my hair is short and all pokey. I really want to grow it so it actually goes down to my shoulders but i tried to before and it didnt work. My hair just kept sticking up more but it was right on my head not like hanging down how i want it. Is there a way to stop my hair from growing out and make it grow so it hangs down or is it just impossible for thick hair like mine?
I want my hair to be like this guys: http://www.6am.it/gossip/foto/appleyard_SOTY.jpg - http://www.6am.it/gossip/foto/appleyard_SOTY.jpg

Sounds like you have what we call "coarse" hair. "Thick" is when you have a lot of hairs per square inch. "Coarse" refers to the width of each strand. Coarse springy hair will weigh itself down after it reaches about 5-6 inches, but meanwhile I'll let others help you out with poof management until then...

Good luck

Hey everyone again. Well this is whats happening, im still growing my hair but it doesn't like move around even though its as long as my australian friends hair which bounces and shakes around. I know this is because my hair is much more coarse but he thinks that even though its so coarse, it will have to move around but when its longer because it will weigh itself down or something. <- is this true and what do you think about it all? and this is a picture of me today with my hair damp and combed down. http://www.geocities.com/slim_shady0012/PICT0112.JPG - http://www.geocities.com/slim_shady0012/PICT0112.JPG

you either go to a salon ask them to "thin" your hair. this will allow you hair to become less thick. but this type of cut requires a touch up every 2 months. or you can also get your hair rebonded. it will provide that bouncy, light feeling when its done.
i have seen many indians and malays here in malaysia who have it done because their hair is so thick. they loved it.

rebonding is basically a relaxing process. it straigtens and reconstructs the hair. a more extreme way to straighten it, because its takes about 3 hours +++ to get it done, they uses a very hot iron about 180 Celcius. but they also use a very high quality protein treatments to keep hair from frying. a friend of mine got it done, at it looked so nice and smooth. since you are in australia, it should be relatively cheap, since there is many asians there( chinese, thais, japanese all the "neese") and asian loves there str8 rebonding hair,
