Despite all the rules out there about cutting your hair, being an impulsive person I went out there and broke them all and I'll be paying for it for at least a year. Rule 1: My boyfriend and I broke up so I wanted a new look. Rule 2: I wanted a short, cute cut but didn't know exactly what. Rule 3: I went to a "no appointment necessary" salon and did not know the stylist. The result: a short cut that I hate. I should know better than to break the rules.

I did the same thing about a month ago and have had regrets daily! My hair was shoulder length and looking pretty good. I went to a new salon and wanted some texture added to my all one length cut . . . big mistake! Bad haircut turned worse when I went to another salon and had them chop it all off to a short above the ears style that I'm still regretting a month later! That's one way to solve a bad haircut!

A week ago I had a chinlength bob with a middleparting and because everybody seems to have bangs I wanted to try this look. I have never had bangs before so I asked my stylist to cut something that looks good on me. I ended up with rather short bangs, and the worst: they are cut almost back to my ears... it looks horrible and I can't find a way to make this style look good. Any advise on this?

Any advise on this?I don't know how thick or what texture your hair is, but i'll suggest a few things. If you don't mind styling products, try either a stiff gel in the bangs followed by a shot with the hairdryer to make them a little spiky. Depending on whether you have a job or are a student, you could make them a _lot_ spiky. Or try sort of "swoopy" with a side part- think Flock of Seagulls updated. If your hair is cooperative you could get a headband (the metal and plastic ones with teeth hold just about any thickness hair) which will pull the bangs back and close to your head. Then work on either making the hair sleek (think Swedish model) or voluminous (Audrey Hepburn, maybe?) behind the headband. The same look can be done with traditional hairpins or even with butterflies if you like that look. Letting your hair dry in a headband and taking it out later in the day gives interesting results. Now that miniknots are in, look at Patricia Arquette's look in Stigmata. But that's a quite alternative look and if you have a conservative workplace you'd have to work hard at making it fit. (Assuming that's important to you :)All of the above are things i tried while i was growing out bangs i'd had since...1995, i think. Some of it never left the house, granted, but i swear i tried it all. My hair is very fine, and if i had a bushy mane i could have made a lot more of it work.Good luck!
Duh! Why would you get a cut that you didn't know what you wanted, or how you would look. Ever hear of tryin on a wig before you make a dumb decision like that?? I don't feel 1 bit sorry for you. Its your fault so live with it.
i dont think just because you went to a "no appointment necessary salon" is the reason you got a bad haircut. Its probably because you had no idea what you wanted. Hairstylist are not mind readers

korn_chick... I have seen your snot-nosed replies around the boards, and it appears to be past your bedtime. You even posted crap on a message board about my posting. Get a life and be a bit human, would you? Get off the boards and grow up. kornschick_69@hotmail.com

My wife did an even worse thing last year. We were on vacation on a tiny Scottish island (pop. 180) and she decided to let a local 17 year old loose on her hair because she felt that the girl needed encouragement. The girl said she was a hairdresser but one look at her own inexpertly dyed locks should have been a giveaway; anyhow she went ahead with it and ended up with a terrible mid ear length bowlcut that you might give to a child -if you didn`t like them very much. Of course, being English, Maryan felt she had to say "That`s nice" and give the girl £10 for her trouble! It took 6 months to grow out.
Shuana, Don`t rule out extensions. Go to a professional and discuss the possibilities about extensions. You may want to call first to be sure there is an "Extension specialist" in the salon you choose. Best of Luck.
Heidi, I think you probley look good, the way you explained it sounds like your bangs are sexy. Maybe you could try barrets or try crimping your bangs.
