I often wonder what people experience in different regions. When I did hair in Texas, I saw alot of dandruff. In Minnesota, I see so much Psoriasis! Due to the extremes of seasons I believe. Well, for most flaky things, I have two solutions I rely on heavily. First, Aveda Scalp Remedy. It's a white creme that you massage into scalp (when hair is dry) prior to washing. If not that, then Aveda Energizing or Calming Neutrients or Beautifying Formula. All of which are oil compositions containing mostly JoJoba. Other good oil to use, Tea Tree aka Melaluca. Massage into scalp (while hair is dry) roll brush at scalp, (preferrably soft natural bristle brush) then shampoo. This should do the trick and only needs to be done when flaking or itching becomes noticable again.
In addition to Paula's good recommendations, your husband might want to discontinue using his current shampoo, etc.--he might be having an allergic reaction to the product(s). Also, if where you live is very cold, he may want to wear a hat when he's outdoors.> CAN ANY ONE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS FOR MY> HUSBAND. HE HAS A VERY DRY SCALP THAT FLAKES BAD. My hair is normal to dry and often when the seasons change in my area from warmer to much cooler my scalp can have quite a reaction.I thought the other respondents' advice was excellent and I just want to add something. First, I would definitely recommend hot oil treatments with jojoba oil for about a month to see if they will soothe his scalp.Second, I would really recommend a product which I use to lift the flakes and irritation from the scalp. It is Aubrey Organics Blue Green Algae Pre-Shampoo Conditioning Treatment. You apply the product prior to shampooing, leave on from 10-30 minutes, rinse and shampoo out. It is excellent. It will also add some shine and body to your husband's hair, too. I think that he might enjoy it. You can obtain the product directly by calling 1-800-AUBREY H, visiting the website at www.aubrey-organics.com, or visiting a health food store in your area. The treatment comes in a 4oz jar. You would probably want to use about half the jar. What you will notice is that after your husband has washed and his hair is dry is that you may see some flakes after he brushes. This is normal and shouldn't last too long. From experience, it means the treatment has worked.A variation on the Blue Green Algae Treatment which I have used is to essentially do a jojoba hot oil treatment, leave the oil in hair, then add the Blue Green Algae Treatment, and shampoo as usual. THAT METHOD PACKS A PUNCH! You might want to try this if your husband is truly miserable.Lastly, I wanted to say that I think that you should be very careful with tea tree oil. It is definitely good for the scalp and a variety of skin conditions in the appropriate balance, but I stress balance. Never apply tea tree oil full strength to the scalp or skin. It can burn tremendously. Also, do a patch test to be sure that no allergy is involved. I can recommend to you the tea tree shampoo by Jason Naturals which is lovely, gentle, and effective. Also, the product contains no sodium lauryl sulfate which can aggravate a dry scalp if you are sensitive to it.I hope this helps. All the best to you and your husband.Jade21
