Monoi Oil is a light, coconut oil scented with a variety of aromas, most commonly the Tahitian Gardenia (Tiare Flower). It is extremely moisturizing to hair and skin. You may be able to find it at your local health food store. The Long Hair Lovers web site also sells it: http://www.bbahneycomm.com/longhairlovers/monoi.html. I have used it and always get excellent results with it. I like it even more than olive oil/honey for conditioning.

Not trying to start an argument with you Vicky, but I was just reading an article in a health magazine about the dangers of too much iron even in small doses, so prenatals may not be the right choice for many women.
Karen Marie, I got some coconut oil over the weekend to try to make my own Monoi oil, after reading your glowing reviews on this site and LHL. If it`s a success, I`ll post the recipe.
While I don`t believe there is any secret to long hair, there are so many factors which play a part in your hair`s condition.
Though there are indeed standards in hair care, each hair type has different needs and routines. For example, my hair tends to be very dry, so hair care for a woman with oily hair may do nothing for me.
Even though I have had long hair for a long time, I am still, and hope to continue....learning about hair care. I have found so much helpful information online! When you can combine health with length, there`s no stopping you! (or the compliments...) :-)
Just recently I learned about a product called Monoi Oil. Before I tried it, I had used Olive oil on my hair. At the time, I thought it was an ancient secret women intentionally kept to themselves! (ha ha) Then, after trying the Monoi oil, the results were tenfold and I can`t stop sharing this secret with anyone who will listen. Mind you, you may not feel quite the excitement I do with my dry hair, but this is just an example of the wisdom out there if you just look for it.
You might want to give more information regarding your hair type in your posts, so that perhaps others who share your type may give bits of advice you are able to add to your current routine. Don`t be afraid to check out the other hair care sites, too.
One bit of advice I will give is not to jump into a number of new things at once. Start slowly and try things a little at a time. If you suddenly start taking vitamins and other supplements, using new products, trying new things all at once and something does not agree with your hair or your body, you won`t know what is causing it.
Go slowly.
Also, don`t believe everything that you read. John Q. Public may advise using a particular vitamin which may have adverse side affects for you. Be careful when adding new things. Ask, inquire, research.
But please...don`t take prenatal vitamins... these have a specific intention-pregnancy. Prenatal vitamins generally do not have Biotin and MSM, silica, etc. which focus on hair and not baby. If you want long hair, learn proper hair care, health care, and if you so desire, a hair vitamin. There are various kinds out there. Some are stronger than others. Choose what is right for you.
I have recently begun using Ultra Hair Plus by Nature`s Plus. I take this vitamin not for the growth, but strength and maintenance of my hair. I might add, though, that my fingernails are out of this world!
You would be amazed at what a simple One-A-Day will do alone. There is a lot to be said for good health care. I take the Women`s formula.
I recently came across a website with a very highly respected person in the long hair care world. I`ll be honest with you, the routines which were mentioned made me cringe just reading them!
Do what works for YOUR hair and don`t let anyone convince you that things are not good for your hair or vice-versa. Your hair will be the first one to object if you make the wrong decision.
May your hair grow long and lovely, Karen Marie

Believe it or not the thing that works the best (almost without fail!) is taking "PRENATAL VITAMINS"! Ever notice how prenant women`s hair always seems to look so healthy and grow so quickly? Well, I started taking the Prenatal Vitamins, though not pregnant, mainly because I felt that if it had all a woman`s body needs WHILE she`s pregnant, well, then, it should also be healthy and good for the body even while not pregnant. Within a month I noticed how quickly my hair had grown, where before it always seemed to get sholder length and just stop. Now it is just above my waist and healthy as can be! Try it! I would be you see quick results - and the vitamins are not only harmless, but healthy!!! Vicky

There is no "secret" to growing long hair but here is what I have learned from 20 years of experience: 1) Decide you want long hair. Sometimes people say, "I don`t know if my hair would look good long." Or friends will say, "Why don`t you cut it?" You must decide if long hair is what you want. Once you`ve made this decision, don`t let people or fashion magazines change your mind. There will be pressure, and you must resist. 2) Get your nutrients. Eat a healthy diet with fruits, vegetables, and protein. Eating fish and nuts helps too. That being said, it`s nearly impossible to get all your nutrients for maximum hair growth from food alone. Take a quality vitamin supplement. 3) Use quality products made for your hair type (dry, fine, oily, etc.). Everyone seems to like different things, so it may take some time to find just the right ones for you. Get a wide tooth comb with smooth teeth. It is your friend; treasure it. Start combing your hair from the very ends and be very gentle and slow. If you must use a hair dryer, use the lowest setting. 4) Love your long growing hair! This is fun! Take pictures of it, measure it, learn fun braids for it. Enjoy the feeling as it touches for the first time your shoulders, back, waist, hips, knees, legs, ankles. Revel in the many compliments you receive. Compliment other long haired people. Meet amazing longhair enthusiasts on the Net. Here is one great link: www.tlhs.org Serious longhair enthusiasts hang out here. The focus is long female hair. This site has beautiful pictures, hair care tips, and a nice guestbook. Good luck and keep us informed about your progress.
