What ingredient in a relaxer makes the scalp burn? Can they remove this ingredient and have the relaxer still work effectively? just wondering

Because it contains a caustic chemical, calcium hydroxide.  Either way, it's gonna burn.  But necessary to break the protein bonds to make it straight to your liking.

one of the reasons i stopped relaxing is because hair removal lotions also have this hydroxide thingy

Ok, ok . No I'm ready.  Girl are you serious? If you don't know what it is you shouldn't be putting it on your head. If they took the "burn" out it wouldn't straighten your hair any more. Your welcome.
