If someone can relate or help;

I've read through these and other hair forums but can't seem to find advice specifically for naturally straight frizzy hair. I am half caucasion and half middle-eastern, that might be why my hair tends to be somewhat course, some odd waves here and there, but definitly has BABY HAIRS all over especially at the crown. My hair is generally straight but gets wavy below my shoulders. My hair length is down to my bra strap.
My hair can also easily look greasy, flat, and lifeless, especially if I use the wrong products or brush it too much. So I don't like the way serums look in my hair. Blow drying and straigtening helps but not completely and it takes forever.

Even at my hair's healthiest, still frizzy. So I know it's not completely from damage.

I'm confused as to what is fine or thick hair. I think I might have fine hair but alot of it, it gets staticy and poofy sometimes. Alot of times it just seems dull and Blah.

I don't need my hair to be stick straight, I just want the frizzies out. in fact I like volume, bounce, and some waves or curls.  But In humid weather (texas) my hair is impossible.

I am using this line called "healthy hair plus" I bought online, their curly line has helped but I'm not happy with my hair still.  So far Kenra straightening fluid works ok because it doesn't make my hair too greasy and cuts frizz a little. There are so many products and so much info, does anyone have any specific advice or where to start?

Thanks so much!

I don't know if I can totally relate, but I'll give you what I can and you can take what you want and leave the rest. Wink

fine hair- a single strand cannot (or can hardly) be felt when rubbed between thumb and finger, like very tiny thread
coarse hair- a single strand is very obviously felt between thumb and finger, sometimes feels flat like ribbon
thick has to do with the circumference of your ponytail

My own hair is actually a combination of textures.  Medium on top, coarse towards the back of my head, and fine at my neck.  The baby hairs are also very fine, but seem to get more coarse as they get longer.  The curl pattern is also combination.  Ranging from slight waves to tight corkscrews.  That makes it hard to know how to care for it!

I've found that my hair needs extreme moisture and conditioning.  It got as healthy as it was going to get with a normal routine, but it wasn't good enough.  The average routine was ok, but since I've been using more conditioner and doing deep conditioning treatments, my hair is wonderfully soft and shiny!  It has also helped tame the frizz (though I don't think it'll ever be completely gone, that's just something we have to learn to deal with) and made it more manageable in the humidity.

Thanks Sarah.
That's a great explanation or fine vs thick hair, and figured out that I have lots of fine hair.

A question for you, I'm going to purchase some conditioning treatments today, for weekly deep conditioning, what do you recommend? I know there are repairing types for damaged hair that has protein and there are moisturizing conditioners. I think I read here on the forums to do protein then a conditioning treatment......is that what you do? What brands do you use? I don't even care about cost if it really makes a difference.

I think my hair is relatively healthy but I blow dry and got some highlights recently.

If I'm looking to try new shampoo/conditioner should I start with Redken? I'm looking to keep body and reduce the frizz....I only blow my hair straight to make it less frizzy and make it look "done", but don't really care for the straight look necessarily, and I really hate messing with my hair for more then 10 or 15 minutes.

How long do you give new products to see if they work?

Sorry for all the questions, I appreciate your time. Thank you, Dayda

No problem, I'm glad to answer any questions!  How thick is your hair by measuring around your ponytail?

I don't use expensive products, mostly because I can't afford them, but also because I don't think it's necessary for healthy hair.  But I don't use really cheap products either.  You can read on my hair space about my recent experience with finding a new conditioner, as well as each product I use and why.  The main thing I look for is lots of natural/botanical ingredients and no -cones.  I like real stuff, not a bunch of chemicals.

Alot of times I can tell early on if my hair likes a new product or not, but I usually try to use up a whole bottle before I make a final decision.

I haven't had much experience with protein.  I only recently started experimenting with it.  I don't think it's going to work for me.  I'll have to be satisfied with my protein-rich diet and forget trying to add it topically.

what I do to extra-condition my hair:
When I condition my hair after washing, I use 2 or 3 times as much as suggested.  I slather it on thick from neck down and clip my hair up in a bun for the rest of my shower.  Then I rinse it out at the end of the shower.  This gives the conditioner a chance to actually soak into the hair.

I wash my hair usually twice a week.  On some days in between, I CO (condition only) by wetting my hair and applying conditioner as if I'd already washed it.

Every month or so, I do a deep conditioning treatment of some kind such as olive oil or mayonaise or an egg/oil recipe I have.  It makes my hair very soft.  I've also been experimenting lately with honey and molasses.  They're so good for skin and hair!
