If your curling iron has a steam feature, try using that. I find that steaming the curls makes them last longer.
If not, try spraying your hair with a little setting lotion before you use the curling iron. You might try the kind you use with hot rollers first - it is light, won`t weigh you hair down, and should help lock in the curl a bit better.
Finally, try using smaller sections with a bit more tension.
