    Posted: February 14 2008 at 3:25am
Has anyone here ever tried to make their own clip in human hair extensions?

Something like this:
http://www.internationalwig.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=82_111&products_id=4427

How hard do you think it would be to make something like this?

Hope to get some inspiration or starter tips on how to do this!

I make my own clip ins.  It's not hard at all.

I use a thick needle, upholstery thread and a pair of needle nose plyers.

I take my machine weft and measure for placement starting at the bottom of my head,  moving up.  Once I get a feel for how long/short a piece is gonna be, I double it up and then cut it.  I start sewing the end pieces together so it will be even.   Once that weft is complete, I'll then sew the clips on, continuing till I have enough hair or run out of hair.

All my clip ins are double wefted.

I'll add pics in a bit.

Here they are...

This is the first time in.  Needs cut.

After a hefty razor cut.  My FABULOUS stylist says it makes ya sick when you pay for that hair and it lays on the floor.

Here's another from the side but kinda upclose...  just for fun.Big%20smile

Looky what I found.  Au Natural.  Disregard the pony line.  Pic taken on 1/10/08.   I'm trying to grow out...

ETA pics...

Thanks LuckieDuckies.

I've had to go buy bigger ponytail holders.  It's a lotta hair.

I don't think they are uncomfy at all.

Wow. That is great. I've been thinking of making my own clip ins also. When you double the weft , do you actually sew the entire thing together?
I don't love sewing and while I was prepared to sew the clips on, I was thinking of using LG to bond the weft together and make it double.
Wonder if that would work?

It would work but I would sew them together. Don't sew the wefts directly
on top of each other, put one weft a bit under the other and stagger it.

Thanks Malibu.
Yes, I thought sewing may be the better way as well. I will probably do that.

It's worth the effort, I promise. I'm not a LG fan because it boogers up after a while and becomes messy. Some people LG the clips on too but it's like gluing your hem instead of sewing it.

Addy!

You are amazing!

So those are just combs that you slide in? How does the hair not slip out? I saw the one site where they had these snap type clips. Do you know about those? I have super, super fine hair and I know combs would not stay in whatsoever... so I was wondering about snap type combs that would be more secure. I found out about them here:

I wish someone would make a little YouTube video about how to make these so we could see 'hands on' the process.

What kind of hair did you use and where did you get it from?

Really, really awesome job!

They are the snap clip ins...  I bought them from Sally's.

I tease my hair at the base, spray with hair spray and then snap them in and I'm good to go.

I bought my hair from yourhairshop.com.  It's TEASE and I love it!Smile

Thanks for the compliments!

Addy,

Just a few more questions:

Do you remember the brand of the clips? I am just not sure what to look for brand wise. Sally's doesn't have the most knowledgeable staff, so I want to go in prepared. I need the tightest, most secure clip possible for my baby hair!

As for the TEASE hair, did you just get one 4inch weft, or more? Was it the 20" weft straight that you got?

Thanks!

For the life of me, I can not recall the name brand.  I found them, 3 in a pack for $1.99  by the hair extensions...  I think I bought like 10 or 12 pacs so I'd have enough...

I bought two 4 oz packs of 20" Silky Straight TEASE.

I'm glad to help you! Smile

Hi Abby.  What color of hair did you use?  I swear we have the same hair color!

I've always wanted to try making a set like that - I saw a thread on these a long time ago ...

It's a great color huh?! hehehe.

I'm pretty sure this is a #5 in TEASE 20" with OTC Garnier 100% #501 color.  Least that's what I use on my real hair and I put it on the hair extensions for 10-15 minutes.  <too lightDead>

The next time I order, it'll be a #3.  <I got a color ring of TEASE/D-Lux>  It sould be the perfect match.  I HOPE!LOL

I make my own as well different people & places call tha clips different things, I've heard to them as being referred to as weave clips n wig clips. I love them, they give me some thickness n volume, which I love since my hair is extremely thin up top. I have a set in curly/wavy hair ta match my hair n a set wit straight hair for when I straighten my hair.
Tha only thing I don't like is how tha clips tend tha hurt my head afta awhile..Does anyone elses' hurt? Or is it jus me n my tenderheaded self?LOL

Addy, do you put tha extensions throughout/over your hair so that it covers your own hair? If so do you leave any hair out in tha front, how do you hide tha tracks? Or do you jus place them inbetween your hair so they blend in?

 What is a "machine weft"
what is double wefted?

Do you have any websites or videos you know of that give a little instruction on how to "create your own"  ?
Thanks for your help!
