QuoteReplyTopic: How much shedding is "normal"? Posted: June 18 2009 at 8:45pm
I know that this depends on the person because everyone's hair is different but I don't know if I should be worried. The only time any of my hair falls out is when I wash it. I can't really tell if it's breakage or shedding. The hairs are kinda long but I have a lot of layers in my hair.
Anyway, it's not a whole lot of hair. My comb isn't filled with hair when I'm done but there is hair lol
I have no idea what my "official" hair type is but my hair is naturally curly and kind of fine. It's not really tight curls either. And I'm biracial (half white half black)
I only apply heat to my hair once a week (blow dry and flat iron with heat protectant and leave in conditioner although I'm going to try to stop blow drying) And I wash my hair every 5-7 days using the organic root stimulator shampoo and the deep penetrating conditioner. I've been using them for about a year and really like them but some people say you shouldn't use the creamy aloe shampoo often because it's a clarifying shampoo. Is that true? It leaves my hair feeling soft but could that be causing the shedding?
Any tips at all? Is some shedding/breakage when you wash hair considered "normal"?
Thanks, I'm just a little worried because I want to make sure my hair is healthy
Edit:would co-washing help?

Shed hair is hair that has reached the end of its growing cycle and naturally
falls from the scalp along with its tiny, white "root" attached. Its natural to shed hair.
Its said that a healthy head of hair may shed as many as 50- 100 hairs per day, I think that varies on the person and the type of hair they have (thickness and so on) Since my hair is very thin, if I was to shed 100 hairs a day, I'm sure I'd be bald in no time.
Other conditions which may increase your shedding rate are: -styling
methods that place stress on the
follicles -birth control/menstrual
cycles/menopause -pregnancy -heredity (runs in the
family) -crash dieting/ low protein diets, poor diet -illnesses
with high fever as a prevailing symptom -anemia, thyroid disorders, and a
host of other chronic disorders - certain medications and major surgeries
and treatments like chemotherapy
