Need pics of transitional styles

Hi all.  I have had a short pixie (think, Michelle Williams current style) for a couple of years now.  I love it, but am getting bored, so I think I want to grow it out into a short bob for a while (as I mentioned in a previous post to this forum).  However, I'm going on a big vacation in the beginning of April, so I'm wondering whether I can have a decent looking style by then, or if I should wait to grow it out till I come back. 

I last had it cut at the beginning of this month, so I would be able to have 2-3 inches of growth by the beginning of April.  Currently, the sides are just over my ears - they would be ear tip length or jaw length if I'm really lucky by then.  What kind of style could I have with hair that length?  My layers are currently 2-3 inches long all over, so would be 4-6 inches long by that time.  Of course, I would trim the back to avoid mullet territory, but would want to avoid cutting the rest of it as much as possible.

I'm just having trouble envisioning a style at that length that I would want to have in my vacation photos.  :-)  You guys are always so great with the photos and advice, I'm hoping you can help me out.    If you think I should wait, please tell me that, too.  I do like my pixie, but am just incredibly bored with it.  My hair is blonde and quite fine, if that helps.  Also, I am a married mom of a certain age, so nothing too crazy, please.  :-)

Sorry...long hair guy here... see what happens when a guy comes around?  I don't think so?  You have enough fun in front of you to show off any situation.

Thanks, guys.  Hawg, that article was helpful, thanks.  I think I will give growing it out a shot.  I can always cut it before my vacation and start over again after if I really hate it.
