I have naturally dark blonde hair that I have been coloring light golden brown for a few months. I have been using Loreal Feria - light golden brown.About 2 months ago, I switched to medium golden brown because the light brown kept fading and getting lighter than I wanted. The medium brown was TOO dark so when it was time for a touch up, I colored all my hair with my old light golden brown shade. I noticed that my roots were lighter, but the rest of my hair (with the old color) stayed dark. Then, like an idiot, about 4 weeks later, I decided that I'd go back to being blonde, so I used Clairol Nice N Easy natural golden blonde. Yikes. The blonde, of course, did not color over the brown. Now I have brown hair with blonde roots. I did that a week ago.Tonight, I used my Feria Light Golden Brown again. My roots are a LITTLE darker, but still lighter than the rest of my hair. I like my Feria light golden brown shade and I would like to keep using it. If I continue to color with that same shade, will it eventually even out? I would love to see a colorist, but I can't afford to right now. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
a few years back i had the same trauma, but mine was dark brown hair with about 1-2 inches of ORANGE roots. i tried to color only the roots but the color did not take. i ended up spending a small fortune (at the time) and went to a salon. the colorist was able to color the orange roots. paying for salon color is definitely worth the expense - remember - for the most part, they are the experts. be careul with the feria. i obviously did not learn from my hair color disaster and used espresso brown feria on my hair and ended up with redish medium brown hair which i did like but doing my dark brown roots every 3-4 weeks was getting really old!best of luch to you!

Thanks! You should only be coloring the roots so you can match the rest of your hair. If you keep coloring all of your hair the roots will not match since they are already two different shades. Also, you should use a semi permanent color on your hair (except for root touch ups) since it is much less damaging. Good Luck...

Once you have achieved the color then you could go back and use the color you want. You have to remember that color does not lift color. If you are going from dark to light you have to color correct the ends.good luck.!!

Thanks! To Erin; Please find a good friend who will handcuff you from pouring on any more color on your hair! Seriously, think about what you have done and what has caused the problems:1) When you color over previously colored hair it will 'take' or deposit deeper because of the changes in porosity from previous coloring.2)You have found out already that trying to put the 'target' color that you wanted over the top of the medium brown only deepened the 'deposit of pigment' and only reacted 'normally' with the virgin 'root' hair.3) To darken the roots to match the darker color you can probably can mix the lighter color with the darker color using about 50% of each color in a applicator bottle or bowl to get a 'combination' color to try to get you out of this mess. Definitly do a test strand and time for 1/2 of the regular time to check your progress. Adjust the timing or mixing ratio of the colors to 'correct' the shade or deposit of color as ness. Color only the lighter 'roots'. If you want to return to a lighter color you should use a 'haircolor remover' to strip the deposited pigments and recondition, before using a deposit only color in approx. 2 shades lighter and strand test to correct as ness. This is because of the increased porosity. This is a job that should be left to the pro's! william

Thanks!I too used Feria light golden brown at first and then used medium golden brown which I have found too dark. I was thinking of going back to the lighter shade but I can see that's not a good idea. This is tricky business! Feria colors do fade fast, but I like that because the line of demarcation is not as noticable on my hair. I had great results with Feria and I am not brave enough to try another brand. I like the multi-tone affect of Feria. But I keep reading that coloring over and over is taboo, so what can a girl do when those nasty roots show? Guess I should ask William... Hey William!
