QuoteReplyTopic: Need advice about a "sticky situation" with my hair stylist!!! Posted: January 12 2000 at 6:04am
I have been going to my stylist for two and a half years now just for hair cuts, and have been please with the way she cuts my hair.About three months ago, she recommended that I let her color and highlight my hair. This was to be the first time I ever had a "pro" color my hair, so I decided to play it safe by bringing in pictures of what I wanted and spending some time discussing it with her before proceeding. It seemed at the time that we were both on the same page as far as what I wanted. Well, what I got was a real disaster. The color was completely opposite to what I wanted, and I hated it (so did my friends and family). She added a few products to my hair to help improve things, and it looked a little better, but still way off from what I had asked for. I might add that she never did a strand test, never offered to give me back my money or even part of it even though she knew I was unhappy with it, had spent a lot on this, and tipped her well (as I always have) even though she owns the shop. We parted on friendly terms, but I decided to not have her do anything else to my hair and haven't talked to her since. Now here's my dilemma...within the next couple of weeks, I'll be needing a hair cut again. The other day she left a message on my answering machine and said she was calling to see how I was and more importantly how my hair was. I haven't returned the call yet. I had decided months ago, that under the awkward circumstances, I'd try to look for another stylist to cut my hair, but now I don't know. Should I go back to her since I liked the way she cut my hair, (knowing that the subject about my hair color will surely come up and frankly, I don't know what to say to her--I haven't done a thing to it since she worked on it and roots are showing) or should I start fresh somewhere else? I have no intentions of letting her ever put color in my hair again even if she were to offer (which she hasn't) because we obviously do not see colors in the same way--I'll go back to coloring it myself from now. Please give me some advice on this, what do you think I should do?

Hello. I think you should keep going to her for cuts. I recently tried finding a different stylist to cut my hair, because the one I'd been going to seemed to get angry at me for getting a relaxer done at a different salon. Well, I couldn't find anyone else who knew my hair the way she does, so I went back.If the hair color issue comes up, just explain that you were unhappy with the results because your hair came out much differently than how you'd expected. Tell her you were a little bit irritated, because you felt that she hadn't listened to what you wanted. Tell her you didn't want to say anything to her because you know that she worked hard on the color and you didn't want to hurt her feelings. If she went out of her way to call you, then it is obvious that she wants to keep you as a client and is probably sorry for giving you something you are unhappy with.Hope this helps. Let us know what you decide.
>Hey if you are happy how she cuts go back, but Never let her color your hair & if the situation ever arises simply tell her how miserable you are with a yuk color & having to pay for it really upset you!!, I have had this same problem so I told the colorist I would prefer another colorist who 'Listens', to do my hair. Above all You must feel good as the hair is on Your Head!!, maybe clear the air & go to another Salon for colors, Hairdressers are supposed to be Professionals (most anyway & yes I used to be one) so she should be ok with it, so don't worry, take control & get what you want & Pay For!!.Bye, Simone. > Bye, Simone. C. :)> I have been going to my stylist for two and a halfIf you've been with the same stylist for 2 1/2 yrs. you must know her well enough to call her and explain the situation.I'm sure she didn't intentionally screw your hair up and obviously feels quite bad about it if she called you.I would give her another chance.
Thanks so much to all of you for your input on my situation. At this moment, I'm still undecided. There is another stylist in my area that I'm thinking of giving a try just to cut my hair, but I'm not sure. I guess I'm bugged about all that money I spent and all I have to show for it is hair color I didn't want. I did go back to her two days later to give her an opportunity to correct it (when she added other toners, etc. to help with the color) but it still wasn't right and she knew it. It was at that point that she said she didn't want to add anything else because now she was worried that my hair would sustain some damage if she did. I agreed and that was that! But, I still think she should have refunded some of my money or offered to give a free hair cut next time or something under the circumstances. I guess I'm a bit resentful about that, and that's whats standing in the way of my returning to her even just for a hair cut. I'll give it some more thought though before I go anywhere. Thanks again.
