wut would be a good product to use to keep from blondes getting brassy... right now i use redken both shampoo ,conditioner and treatment for ultra pale blondes but want sumthin else to keep it from going brassy and help brighten up my blpndes also ..especially since i used to be copper so sumtimes the brassiness will come through a little. ...any personal experience on any products? i heard of a product that i remember was blue and it was used to make the blondes brighter and keep it from going ashy brassy etc.

Whether it is blond turning white or brown turning grey, a change in color pogmentation can lead to yellowish solution is a specifically formulated shampoo designed to take out the brassy tones, leaving hair with a silver sheen.
The only real way to prevent the hair from getting orangy tones is to bleach it to yellow or pale yellow.
If you only bleach to pale orange for example, the orange pigments will always show up eventually as the toner fades.
The problem is that It can be very risky bleaching the hair more, so I'd suggest that you keep on using purple shampoo and purple conditioner.. If you want to save some money I suppose you always can try a less expensive brand, like Clairo Shimmering Lights

Toner fades with all blondes, even naturals who lighten their hair a little.
Using purple shampoo or conditioner helps and going in to get it toned
by a salon works aswell. I have honey/platinum hair and using the
shampoo seems to be helping keep it from going brassy/orange. Shampoo
works, bleaching is a big no-no.

A hairstylist for the famous here in Brazil recommends using a shampoo for gray hair twice a week to keep brassiness away. Try L'Oréal Professionnel's Silver shampoo.

I am a pretty natural blonde. I only get highlights every couple of months...and I just redken coolmoisture...nothing for blondes.
My hair has never turned brassy or orange?!!?
mine does..it matters on ure natural hair color too...mines medium brown with red udnertone to it so seems to make my blodnes go brassy but so far it hasnt even happened ..the treatments i use from redken work....has anyone tried that method about using shapmoo for gray hair?? sounds interesting.

I personally have not tried the shampoo for gray hair thing because I've never had my hair entirely blonde (only some highlights). The theory is that the gray (ash) in the shampoo should neutralize the brassiness. It would be the same as adding an ash based color to neutralize the red on your hair. A hair color technitian (and chemistry major) has told me that to tone down brassiness on your hair you can use a dime size amount of a platinum hair color (usually a 12.1 or 12.11), but only the dye that comes in the tube and not the oxidizer. You wet your hair and apply the dye directly massaging it and the brassiness and excess red should come out immediately, but if need be you can let sit for 5 to 10 minutes. I would think that a shampoo for gray hair would have the same effect, but it would be more for maintenance where the dye technique is mostly for hair that is too brassy already.

the thing i do when i notice that it starts to get bassy, is use a toner.. i just born blonde toner in "silent snow" which is lightest white blonde.. i recommend it because it really does the job and it doesnt even damage my hair.. (and ive bleached like 3-4 times this year) ;P

Would you happen to be able to recommend a particular brand? This is interesting, and I have no clue where to begin looking. I know nothing about store bought hair color. Thanks very much!

Well, nowadays I have been dyeing my hair with professional hair dye. But from my experience with store bought hair dyes, I say go with L'Oréal or Garnier. Excellence and Féria from L'Oréal are really good, so is Nutrisse from Garnier. For the little trick the technitian tought me you can try L'Oréal Féria in 120 (Platinum Crystal) or Garnier Nutrisse in 111 (Extra Light Ash Blonde), go with the 120 (because it's lighter) from L'Oréal, but if you can't find it then you can use the 111 from Garnier. If you can get a professional hair dye I believe it would be best, because they're pigments are higher concentrated. Try to look for anything platinum. This trick also works to remove excess red, green and orange from hair. Also I recommend you do this only when it really is needed, like say your hair was just dyed and needs the brassiness toned down, or if you've been to the pool and your hair turned green. Otherwise, to prevent your hair from getting brassy I recommend a shampoo that is meant to enhance the silver on gray hair.

Thanks FunnyGirl. One more thing: My brass starts showing up LATER, not when it's first highlighted, but a couple/few weeks later. Those shampoos are NOT working on me -- do you think it's ok to still go ahead with your chemistry friend's color theory? It sounds like a good idea ... Shampoos/conditioners USED to work -- don't know why they're not anymore!
Anitan -- I'm thinking you shouldn't have to tone your hair yourself. Of course, neither should I but that's another story. Back when I had a stylist that knew what she were doing, she would put a GREAT toner on my hair and it would last almost until I was due for my touchup (not sure what it was). Maybe just a purple shampoo/conditioner will work for you in between? I'm just thinking since you are in the process of getting your hair blonded, and it's no doubt costing you a pretty penny, that they should be able to tone it for you perfectly. I mean, it already looks beautiful.
By the way, some of those purple shampoo/conditioners are the Aveda Blue Malva, I think the other is Clairol Shimmerlights (something like that -- get from Sally), and I had used a brand by the name of Davines. It's expensive and it smells ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS and worked good at the time. I stopped buying the shampoos myself; now just buy the conditioners. I ordered the Davines online. I have some of that Clairol here at home. I think I'm going to try it again just for the heck of it and see if it helps. I'm miserably brassy! I HATE it!

It could be that your hair is already too brassy to the point where just a shampoo won't reverse the current state of your hair. The shampoo is used to prevent your hair from getting brassy, so that must be why it's no longer working for your hair, because your hair is already in a brassy state. It's okay for you to try the technique, since you don't use the oxidizer it shouldn't be damaging to the hair.
