QuoteReplyTopic: Why do people steal pics for their sites??? Posted: September 08 2006 at 1:30am
Looks like this new site http://dghair.com stole one of Aphrodite's pictures among others (looks like pics I've seen on IndanHairs.com are being used too).. Check this out:
This really infuriates me, I've just recently had to tell a girl who also advertises on ebay to take my client pictures off her hair extension advert, what I couldn't believe is she is actually selling her hair extension service as well as me on ebay and had the cheek to use my pictures, I mean as if I wouldn't notice! x
That was MY picture originally. I had sent it to Aphrodite's to
use with my permission. But our deal fell through and I let her keep
using the picture.
I don't use that picture I didn't think it was that great. It's Wagman's hair.
I have had a lot of pictures stolen on ebay, then I got a code to use that others can't right click. http://www.copy-not.com
It works pretty good. You have to add the code you generate to the end of your HTML.

Well the bottomline is it isn't this dude's picture to use, and CLEARLY he stole it from Aphrodite's site.. So he's definitely in the wrong here since he didn't ask anyone to use the picture..
BTW, most of those scripts don't really stop anyone from stealing your pics from your website if they really want 'em.. There's TONS of other way to yank content off of a website. So if someone wants to steal your pics and other contenet, they really can.. Watermarking Pics is really the better way to protect your pictures.. Properly place watermarks can render the pics useless to would be theives. The way I watermark my pics you would damn near have to destroy the picture just to remove the watermark..

I use
Photoshop for image editing, but I make sure that I put several
watermarks across the picture. This way picture thieves will have to
destroy my picture just to remove the watermark.. The only way to fix
one of my pics after the watermark is removed (provided they were able
to remove it) is to spend some time with a good photo editor fillin' in
the blanks..

Interesting as it looks very similair to this picture at www.internationalwig.com- we were going to get this hair for my next install-
Similar, but not the same picture.. BTW, this looks like Wagman Primus hair that they are selling here.. You can get this hair direct from the source if you call Wagman Primus... You should be able to find their contact info here on this forum or on HE101..

HI! Nobody likes having photos stolen! Sooo, if anyone wants a "watermark" thingy, I know of a great FREE (unlike photoshop!) program (I use it myself). It's called the GIMP, and you can do WAY more than just add translucent layers :)!!!!!!!! Here is the link; http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html (please note, I assumed most of you use M$ Windows as your OS, if not, look around they laos have it for LINUX!) You'll need to download both the first one and either the 2nd or 3rd (depending on your version of windows!) Good luck :D ~~Meow
EDIT: I'm not saying this program is BETTER! than ones you can pay for, I'm just saying it works VERY well for me! :( not to mention saving me over $500.00 for a program similar to Photoshop! plus you can use GIMP with Linux
Perhaps I should state that not everyone needs Photoshop for photo editing.. Windows has decent enough tools to add watermarks to photos is need be , but this is what I use because I have this tool.. (and I was asked what did I do to protect my photos.. so I answered in kind..)
Gimp is okay if you don't need a professional level graphic editing software like Photoshop (which I need for my business).. However, I found that Gimp is not very end-user friendly nor is it always stable.. To protect photos you don't really need much more than translucent layers to watermark 'em.. Photo theives just need to be prevented from editing your photos for their own use, and a few well placed watermarks will do the trick nicely..
Speaking of free... I did see that the site Gerrigirl posted has a pretty cool FREE web-based watermarking script.. (http://www.copy-not.com/wmark/ I still prefer to use multiple watermarks on my pics to ensure that picture theives can't simply edit out the watermark without compromising the picture beyond usefulness, but this script will do a pretty good job of watermarking pics in a pinch.. Only catch is that it will not work with .png or .gif files..

Speaking of stealing pictures. I've just found this girl in the UK advertising her hair extension service under item number 120030752095, if you click on her website and then her before and after pictures, it appears I'm in fact competing against her on www.hairextensionguide.com and not someone from Hair Angels in Texas !

No, sorry guys, I probably should have been a bit clearer. I have no doubt that picture on the extension guide is authentic, its more like the person that's advertising on ebay has lifted it from there and is claiming it as her own xx

Man, that's a dirty dog right there. Lifting other's install pics is one of the lowest forms of bottomfeeding.
Does anyone have a way of letting Nichole on Hair angels know? She is
the Sweetest girl. I saw her work on her website and sent her an email
once because her work looked sooo good. She actually called me back and
we got to talk a bit. Super Sweet!!! I can try to find her email or
website if no one has already. It may be on the Hairextensionguide.com
website.
If you check on the bottom of "The Hair Room" gallery, she says, "Some pictures are Property of www.HairAngel.net which are copyright." It doesn't say whether they're used with permission. I would assume they're not. I wouldn't go to an extensionist that posted someone else's work on their before/after page. *sheesh*
Oh. I didn't even see that, monsterita. The page loaded in such a way that it didn't seem there was anything on the bottom. Wonder what the story is on that.
Site content is copyright, too. What's funny (in not a "haha" way) is seeing entire sections of content lifted from someone's site and put on another one and then the stealer puts a copyright symbol next to it. Now that takes some cajones.
