decision regarding trims

Hey John,

I think she was happy with what her former-hairstylist-now-nurse friend did. I think I know what she was describing, she just angled the bangs a tiny bit, maybe even as little as 1/4 to 1/2 inch, so that they didn`t appear as a solid "chunk" on the sides of the hair, which helps them blend into the length better.

I have decided to grow out my bangs again.....When I decided this, I had my night nurse do a small trim along the front to make my growing out phase a little easier(she was a hairstylist before becoming a nurse and still has her good scissors) This makes my hair look more balanced, now I will just fight the urge to trim the bangs!! Every time I try this I get them cut when they are almost to the point that I can put them behind my ears!! Go figure.....

It sounds like you and I must be on the same waveLENGTH!! LOL

I just recently decided to stop regular trimming too, and see how much growth I can get in a year. I love my stylist; have known her for years, but when I ask for a trim, and she says "I just took your ends off", I still see pieces that must be 1" long in my lap.

So I figured, hey she`s going to take an inch off anyway, I could just as well do that inch once a year.

i have to say, my stylist is wonderful. she knows how picky i am about my hair.....

she is one of my best friends and was also my maid of honor. :)

She will actually sit and pick thru my hair and just snip the splits (on the rare occasion that she finds them). I went in for a 1/4 inch trim on monday bc after 3 months the left was noticably longer than the right. She only took off what was absolutely necessary to even me up.

She too has wielded a large pair of scissors threatening to scalp me, but we are on a level that she can do that. If I had a stylist do that to me (other than her) then I would have walked out right then.

Growing hair is hard enough, then when we finally get to the point where we trust someone to cut it, we don`t need that scare tactic crap.

I have decided this year that I am not going to have my hair trimmed professionally, for a couple of reasons:

1. They always cut too much off. Even when I give specifics-like 1/8", around here, since there is no long hair specialists, they take more, so my hair is not getting much longer. (At least not what I want it to be)

2. As a result, I want to see how much my hair will grow in one year, and how long I can get to be.

3. I will cut off individual split ends I see, on my own, to deal with that scenario. (I check quite often.) Also, I plan to apply the cash I would use for trims to getting more deep conditioning treatments.

4. I am getting significantly less split ends by using a Redken product that is a leave in split ends conditioner. It has been working really well for me, and a little goes a long way.

As an aside, I had a mini horror story from my last trim. Usually things go pretty well even though they still cut too much off. But this last time, I gave my usual instructions, and as the woman was starting , she held the scissors around neck level and said, "What was that you said, 5 inches?" as this joke. I know she meant it as joke, at least I think, but I DID NOT like it.
