> Oh My Word What A Shocker! Cher, I am with you on this one, and Alice, please don't take offense but you look twenty years younger in the BEFORE picture! Terri Anne, please don't buy into that -most mature women look better with short hair- try some estrogen replacement therapy, some natural herbal hormone stimulants, some vitamin A therapy to stimulate your thymus gland into returning to normal function, some hair vitamins, some deep conditioning treatments, ANYTHING before you go to this extreme! You will find lots of gals on this list pushing 40 and well beyond who would gladly support you publicly or privately to help you keep your hair! Very best wishes to all! Dawn.....almost 40, knee length and loving it!
I think the before picture is much more attractive, but that is my personal opinion. Obviously you like ultra short hair. As I was viewing the before picture, I was thinking how lovely it would look super long. What a pretty color and nice texture it was. Cher>

First question - have you seen a doctor to confirm that this is indeed menopause, and that it is proceeding normally? If the situation is that bad, and you haven't, it might be a good idea.Other than that - what shampoo are you using? And how much at a time? Overdoing it with the shampoo could be part of the problem. If you're using Aveda shampoos, it only takes a little bit, and it won't lather as much as some other brands. If you use too much or too harsh a shampoo, that could be contributing to the problem by drying out the hair and scalp. Here's something I do - when I have some time, I rub some jojoba oil into my scalp and hair, and then brush it through. I pin it up in a bun and leave it there for some amount of time, and then shampoo and condition. I've had great results with this, although some people don't like it - I guess it's one of those things where your mileage may vary. Also, jojoba oil can be hard to find - try the health and beauty section of a natural foods type store. The other thing is, make sure you're eating well and trying to stay as stress-free as possible. A scalp massage is nice, both as a stress-reducer and to increase blood flow to the scalp, which is good for the hair.I've had dry hair all my life, so I've learned to deal with it. I can't speak for menopause, not having gotten there yet, but I wish you good luck with it.Laura lswanson@sunflower.bio.indiana.edu
I have been lurking on this board for 6 months but did not feel safe until recently to post my hair problems. I am 49 and in full blown hormonal changes. For me the changes are mostly dryness to my skin and hair, eyes and all over my body. I have been taking herbs to help the dryness but nothing seems to help with my hair. I have been slathering Curressence on which I read helps Cheryl and Karen, but my hair is still dry and seems like it is thinning.I am very depressed about this. My hair was almost to my waist but I am thinking maybe I just need to throw in the towel and get it cut to manage the dryness.Any help would be so much appreciated. Thanks for everything.Terri Anne
