When I was searching for my own hair care question, this section came up & I remembered your inquiry. It's a peculiar site, but it pools all the search engines to give you an answer to your question. Go to: www.askjeeves.comYou then get a box to fill out & ask it a question. Ask it something like "where can I find a hairdresser who specializes in African American hair?" It will give you the results of your search & you should get another option that lets you tell it what state to search (ie. Florida, etc.) Hope this helps! Kelly
The present is the past tomorrow. :)

I live in Orange County, California and have had a time finding someone who can do my hair.I generally go to an Italian man (who relaxes his hair) but, he can never get my hair straight. So, I tried getting cuts from him and relaxers from a woman from Trinidad. Well, she burned me, not with the relaxer but with the curling iron!I just cannot pay her to burn me so, I took it upon myself to relax my own hair. I prefer to have someone else do it but, can't find anyone.I worked at a beauty supply years ago and found some great products that worked such as Bonner Brothers Super Gro, Avlon Products, Creme of Nature Shampoo. I also love the Kiehls and Phyto lines. THey are expensive but worth it. After one use, my hair looks and feels wonderful. I am at the point where I will ask a girlfriend to help me relax my hair. I truly understand. Feel free to e-mail me direct if you have any questions.

Can anybody help me?I bought some books on black hair care, and they have given me a lot of information. These selections should give you the info you are looking for:1. The Journey from Kinky to Straight by Lisa Akbari 2. Ultra Black Hair Growth (Another 6" longer 1 year from now) by Cathy Howse3. Andre Talks Hair by Andre Walker4. No Lye by Tulani Kinard.5. Where Beauty Touches Me by Pamela FerrellYou can find these books at your local bookstore. If they don't have them you can have the bookstore order them.I have had my hair cut very short (afro) for 3 years now. I decided to grow my hair long to see how long it would get. Last year, my hair was about 1.5 inches long, now it's 6 inches long and I have had very little problems with my hair. I too had problem with stylists messing up my hair. I finally gave up on them and went natural. My hair is healthier now. I wear them in twists and everone likes them.

I don't know about you but I am tired of hopping from stylist-to-stylist, shampoo-to-shampoo, and protein pack-to- protein pack. Are there any TRUE black haircare experts out there? What is so difficult about growing thick, beautiful, healthy hair? Maybe black women should stop looking to stylist to manage their manes. Should we seek the guidance of chemists, dermatologists, or what? Does anyone out there know how I can learn the truth about my black hair? I want to know what relaxers really do to my hair and what my hair needs to become healthy. Can anybody help me?
