Hello Christine,Forgive me if my response sounds as though it comes from left field......I am a guy, after all.Revel in your youthful appearance. As time goes on you will realize how fortunateyou are to look younger than your actual age. What I hear you saying is that you are concerned about not being taken seriously.I would propose that the answer to your concern lies more with your behavior thanwith your appearance. If you act professionally, you should expect to be takenseriously. If you act professionally and somebody disrespects you because of yourappearance, the problem is THEIRS, not yours. Let THEM deal with THEIR problem.Personally, I have more respect for a woman who is not afraid to be feminine andhas the courage to adorn herself with long hair, than I have for women who feelthat they need to cut their hair short to be taken "seriously." Cutting one's longhair short for this reason panders to the worst instincts in others, feeding theirinsecurities, rather than helping them to learn to deal with accepting you for whoyou are (someone who appreciates long hair and is trying to grow hers longer).I hope you find my response to be helpful.DaveP.S. To Anybody/Everybody who remembers me... Yes, it's me, back after a long absence.

You don't have to cut your hair to look "older". There are other ways to look more mature in an office setting. Pulling your hair back or putting it up is one way, but cosmetics (lipstick, eye shadow, etc.) can go a long way too. If you wear glasses, make sure they're professional looking. Attractive, professional clothing and jewelry (particularly earrings) can finish your office look. I've worked in large corporations for over ten years now, so believe me, I know! I have been trying a French Twist unsuccessfully :1) I have side layers which keep falling out, looking untidy2) the hair comb (like 6 eagle claws) for French twists doesn't seem to grip my hair properly at the base - although I twist tightly, the bottom is too loose.I think maybe I should stick to half pony tails for a while :)

Christine, I cut off my long hair to look more professional, and I've been regretting it for the past eleven months! I wish I'd kept my length and pulled it back or put it up in styles that were more "office friendly," as opposed to getting an ultra-short (we're talking as short as Delores from the Cranberries) cut. Is your hair long enough to put into a French twist or something along those lines?--HT

Although I am mid-20s, my face looks kind of youngish like 17 or 18 and much like a student! I will be starting work soon and I'm afraid I will not be taken seriously. Are there any hairstyles that would make me look older? I have medium, wavy/straight hair, but I see many older women sporting short hair with wispy ends and they certainly look very matured although these upkeeps need frequent trimming. I am wondering if I should get cuts like these in order to have an older appearance or just stick to my ambition of waist length hair.
