Need Help with Layering questions

Comb all the hair forward that is not clipped out of the way and cut the bangs to the bridge of the nose or just a little longer, cutting the outline of the bangs around the face. Re-establish the center part and part off a 1 inch wide parting that runs paralell to the center parting, comb through very flat and holding at a 30 degree angle from horizontally(as viewed from the side of the head) cut from shortest(bang length) to coincide with the length at the back of the part where thr two parts meet. This will be almost vertically when the chin is on the chest. Continue to bring similar parts upward to be cut to the same length as the 'guide', doing both sides very evenly. After all hair front of the ear to ear part is cut (overdirected) in this manner, comb all of the hair straight up to the part and 'chip into it approx 3/4 deep at the same angle as the hair was held 'chin on chest again' and this should give you exactly what you want. william

Diane,I feel a little better now about trying to tell her what I want. I don't want to lose any overall length and I don't want to lose my bob style (I love it) but I just want a little layering to add a little volume and some different looks when I fix my hair. Do you know of any pictures of a cut like this. I would like to be able to show my stylist a picture if I can. Hi,I need help. I am a guy with a bob style that turns under just below my ears. I am letting my bangs grow out and they are just below my nose (if you pull them down). My hair is thick and I want to lighten things up a bit. I am thinking about adding some layers but I don't want layers that are short and plentiful just a few here and there so that I can brush my hair back and have a little feathering. I don't know what type of layering would look the prettiest or what to tell my stylist. I have heard of graduated layering. Does anyone know how to explain this technique? Also, I have seen some girls with bobs that appeared to have a kind of latering that looked like the stylist just took a small section of hair in various spots and chopped a little off. Does anyone know what this is called and how to describe it? I have also heard of uneven layering. Can anyone tell me what this is. I am going to get a trim next week and I need to know what to tell my stylist and describe what I want. She is really good about doing my hair the way that I ask her to. Any suggestions/comments/advice would be appreciated.Thank you.
