Hey, JadeNo offense taken, I thought it was pretty funny myself.I'm not sure if my relaxer has base or not, but I use "Sensitive by Nature". I notice that the smell is in the "older hair" towards the ends. My boyfriend has noticed it once or twice, too, so I will rarely use the curling iron and blow dryer anymore (maybe that's a good thing, huh?).Speaking of heat on the hair, when I wrap it and sit under a bonnet hairdryer for a couple of hours, it does NOT have that burned smell. Maybe the irons are too hot and the smell is actually protein burning. I dunno. I'll just stay away from the heat, I guess. Thanks for the advice.Mimi
Dear Mimi,I do not mean to make light (no pun intended) of your situation. My best guess is that it is the chemicals in the relaxer and that the curling iron and blow dryer are just accentuating the odor. Maybe the heat could be reactivating the chemicals in some way. Have you asked your stylist about the odor? He/she must smell it when doing your hair.Do you notice the odor when the relaxer begins to grow out? Does the relaxer have a base or not? If it is "baseless", I would bet the smell is from the relaxer itself. They are really strong.Do others notice the odor or is it just you? That would be interesting to know.Bye for now,Jade21P.S. Is there a gremlin in the salon smoking a cigar or cigarette behind you while your hair is done? Can anyone tell me why over the last couple of years my hair has a "burned" smell whenever I go to the hairdresser? I have chemically straightened hair that I have blow dried and curled when I go to the salon. But, when I leave the salon my hair will have this burned/smokey smell for a couple of days afterward.I understand that the irons are probably hot, but I've had this done years ago, too, and it didn't smell like this (yecht!). My diet hasn't changed much either, so I'm baffled.Any ideas?
