Way back when I first started messing with extensions I heard that human hair shrinks when it gets wet and thats why it will slip out of the micro ring.
Em, Im glad to hear that your happy with the synthetic so hair...it gives me hope! Im still waiting for that freetress that I bought to get here...grrrr. I thought it would be here by now *sigh*Keep us updated on the synthetic!
I used up the last of the rings I got from Doc's. Im hoping to order new hair and new rings by the end of this month. The rings Im going to get from hisandher.com, $17.99 for 300 seems a good deal I think. The hair, Im not sure where Im getting it yet Im still looking, there is so much out there its hard to decide. Tho Im pretty sure Im going to stick with the new fiber synth, Im really happy with how this has handled so far, and synth is so cheap you can experiment with different brands and textures without it costing bunches of money.
These Ive had in a week now and Ive only lost 3 so I dont think thats too bad. When I had used them with human hair I had way more come out when I brushed.
That sounds good. Are you using the Doc rings or the extendtubes from hairpiece.com? Do you ever have any slippage with them? (Sorry if you've already answered these questions.) :)
Jenny thanks for keeping all that straight..I decided to go with micro rings because I already had them and cant afford to get shrinkies right now, and the experiment that I did with the heat shrink tubing (from my local electrical supply store) I didnt like it. Ive had micro rings in 3 times now and I like the convenience of them, clamp their in and clamp their out, and Ive never had any residue left to deal with. My scalp is very tender and having to deal with adhesive residue hurts my head so I think Ill stick with micro rings.

Ha! I wish it were. I might have a good memory when it comes to hair, but unfortunately, I can't remember the fundamental things in life...where I put the keys, what day of the week it is, names of people I've met a hundred times....LOL!
Yeah, I think Emma was using the cableorganizer shrink tubing, which wasn't working well, so she switched to the microlinks. And yes, I believe she was using the Futura hair from Sally's, which she liked but felt it was too silky to match her own hair. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if the LG and the nail glue adheres somewhat differently depending on the hair. I'm sure we'll figure it out, though.... :)
See, that's why I'm getting confused. I'm reading where she's wearing microrings and now I'm reading she's wearing dual wall tubing or at least has some in?
I was also under the impression she was using dual wall tubing from cableorganizer and did not have shrinkies at all. Additionally, I thought she was not using a fusion wand but was installing the tubing with a flat iron? And one more thing -- I thought I saw where she was wearing synth wigs and now had installed synth hair she got from the beauty supply store and these experiments were not being done on human hair?
Sorry Amm, all I know is what happend with my own hair. I tipped mine with LG and used heat shrink tubing with a very hot iron and the tip did not stick to my hair nor did it break down. I took out the heat shrink tubing and used the same tips with my micro links.
Yes, the LG will stay pliable. It is not hard as a rock. That is how they're supposed to dry. If it's tacky, too much glue was used or the strand is too thick and the glue inside did not set up.
And yes, the LG will bond when heat activated. I have run so many tests on this stuff and I've been saying all along that it will. I don't know why Emma is saying Liquid Gold does not respond to heat. A light coating of nail glue that is allowed to dry over the surface of the tip will stop any LG from getting onto your hair or the tip.
Again -- Liquid Gold alone WILL cling to the hair. Dr. Locks web site specifically says you will need a fusion remover that is specific to the glue you made your strands with. Applying a coating of nail glue over the top will harden the tip (depending how much you saturate it) and prevent any tipping glue from transferrring on the hair.
I tipped my hair with LG and applied a few with some heat shrink tubing and they didnt melt or bond to my hair. I let the tips go for a good 24 hours and they finally got solid and not tacky anymore. They dont get rock hard. I did layer about a dozen with nail glue but I didnt notice a big difference so I dont think Ill go to the trouble of doing that step in the future.
