With regards to the dead hair and DNA thing:

DNA is only found in the folicle tab (i.e. the root).
Human hair for extensions is cut and doesn't have the tab, so you don't have to worry about Greg Sanders (CSI) pointing the finger at you. LOL
Reality is not your friend.

As far as the human hair thing goes, I do know that the dead-hair-collection thing is a myth. Hair is not cut off of dead people. Hair may be from someone who is currently dead- as in, they cut their hair off before they died- but that's as close as it gets. Of course you can't prove a negative, so I can't prove it never happens, but too many cultures have a profound respect for the material state of the deceased, and there are too many live women in third-world countries willing to sell their hair, for me to believe that commercial hair commonly comes from dead people.

The other things mentioned are valid concerns, such as wearing someone else's DNA. But really, when you're wearing a wool sweater, aren't you doing the same thing?

Not saying that either point is valid or invalid; lord knows I'm a synth evangelist, and wish more people would try it. Just pointing out some logical issues with the whole human-hair-is-unethical thing. Devil's advocate and all.

Update:

I sent Sara an email yesterday evening asking for an individual price for each ring; natural and the funky/fancy. I've yet to hear from her. I'll post the price and my paypal when she writes back.

I'm hoping it *is* quick ship. I'm gonna start tracking my PH package today -- it left Switzerland yesterday. Heck, it'll probably be here before I get my WaWa hair!

Ditto. I wore human extensions for a few years, so I'm not at all judging anyone who does, but the more I read about it, the more uncomfortable I became with the idea. There's a real imperialism about the trade--i.e., women from third-world countries selling their hair for pennies or nothing so that U.S. and European women can wear it--that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I hope this synth switch will be permanent, because I really don't want to contribute to that sort of thing, either. :)

FinaFina - I agree. Aeone posted an article a while back at this thread (hope cutting and pasting works!) :
http://talk.hairboutique.com/forum/viewthread.asp?forum=AMB%5FAP934431446&id=4987&sr1=&sr2=&ExMth=no#post4987
about how much of the GL human hair is actually a religious offering and the donor's have no idea that the hair is sold and used again. that part makes me very, very uncomfortable with choosing human hair.

I'm pretty certain I've converted. Not to get political or pedantic her WHATSOEVER, but I really agree with what Sara says on her website (posted below). Every time I had human hair put on my head I really wondered about the woman it came from. Believe me this NEVER stopped me from using human hair and I don't have any judgments about it. But this really speaks to me:

"I work exclusively with synthetic hair, because of ethical reasons! There are many facts and ideologies to underline this.
I wrote my diploma work about hair and therefore I’m quite knowledgeable about our hair, its meaning and the stories it tells us. 60 cm of real hair lives about 10 years around and with a person. Hair is always with us. Even years later it is still possible to tell how we felt, what we consumed (drugs) and a lot of other biological facts are also still visible.

Apart from that it plays a significant role in black and white magic and in the voodoo cult. Genuine hair is available in various qualities, which can be
divided into different regions, European and various Asian hair. Unfortunately trade with genuine hair is often unfair, you never know where it comes from. There are rumours that it is stolen
from temples where it was used as a sacrificial offering.

Sometimes it comes from prisons and war camps, sometimes even from dead people. Hair is a dead material, dead human horn, like our fingernails.
I would like to make people aware of the fact that wearing genuine hair from other people means to adorn oneself with borrowed plumes, as well as wearing somebody else’s memories. I support synthetic hair ! No it is not real and you may see this. Hair is a personal thing and not a second hand product.

You don’t pluck out a peacocks feathers!"
