Topic: why did Aphrodite get banned? Posted: March 22 2006 at 6:46am
And just a thought...for everyone to think about. Its easy to vote against the underdog and YES Aphrodite has been the underdog from day one. I can see why she would be quick to react to things and to over-react in her own defense based on past experiences here.
Im sorry if this isnt the popular opinion, but its my opinion none the less.
Admin Team Note:
Thank you Sherrie for your opinion & thank all for their opinion. At this point, this topic thread is going to be closed. Everyone has had their say and we need to move back to the topic of this board which is hair extensions.

I think the whole ISSUE has been blown way out of proportion..... So many people are SPECULATING about what happened. And dont know the details. Its unfair to vote against her when you dont know the details. I think the whole thing is unfortunate....alot of misunderstandings, alot of over-reactions.....very very unfortunate for EVERYONE involved!

there is alot we dont know, alot we havent seen or heard, there are two sides to every story. Karen runs an awesome board -is fair, ethical, PROFESSIONAL and kind. I have the upmost respect for how she runs this place and if she has her reasons, then so be it.
Now back to Hair!!!

I just want to say this hair extension board is the most incredible board i have ever seen. I have been a stylist a long time and deceided to take an advanced course in hair extensions. The class was a 5 day and 8 hours a day course but when i found this sight by accident i can only tell you i have never learned so much about a subject like this in my life. Each and every person on this sight is to me a god-send . Please don't ever take this site away. I have read 140 posts on this site going all the way back to 2003 or 2004 and i just cannot believe the info on here. All i can say is you all are "SIMPLY THE BEST"

every story, and I had only recieved the one side. When people only see

feel has been treated unfairly
I agree, I know you don't want to get into it, but when most of us don't
know the facts, it makes us ignorant, which bothers you. But our
ingorance is not our fault.
Aphrodite has contributed a lot here. We all don't know the whole story,
so we feel we need to stick up for her, as we would want others to do for
us, if we were misunderstood. It's not ment in disrespect of any kind.
Karen, you do an awesome job, as we have all seen with the trolls lately,
and even though we don't say it, we stay here, we love being here, and
that's proof that you are doing a good job.
I just want everything to be fair and resonable as possible. If we all don't
know the truth behind what happened, then how can we vote, then how
can we have opinions about this all, with out any knowledge of the truth??
Yeah, now, I just want to talk about hair, Karen can make decisions based
on her opinion since she is the only one that really knows, and I just hope
it's a good one.

I don't think there is anything wrong with a little disagreement - everyone is entitled to their own opinions. We just have to remember to keep it civil, and to not fan the flames if it turns into a catfight, lol.

I feel like I have to be careful of what I say, if I disagree with somebody. At this point in time it seems as if we need to walk on eggshells. Yes, all freedom of speech does have it's limits and does come at a cost to somebody.
Karen you do do a good job and I love this forum. Unforutnatly its the nature of the beast that you would hear more neg. critisim than the KUDOS you deserve.
With all that being said, I am opting to move on from this topic and talk about what I am obsessed with. HAIR!!!

Karen, you do a GREAT job. I don't think anyone would dispute that.

This is a great forum. Hands down, the best on the net for this particular topic. You do a fantastic job keeping it civil around here while still letting it get interesting.

Karen, I think you misinterpreted my post, and failed to read my very
supportive post about you in the other thread. I do not believe that this
forum is censored, overly nice or boring. My fear, as I expressed it in my
post, is that should there be too many changes in the direction of limiting
what people say, this fabulous forum could go the way of others I've been
on that became overly censored and insipid. I fully support your control
over scammers and people who prey on the innocent. I was most
impressed a while back with how you handled my concerns about hair
fetishists posting on the Short Hair forum. I'm sorry if my post offended
you.

Reading all these posts on this thread makes me realize why I love the Extension Forum so much--strong, independent women (and one VERY mature young man) who have the guts to express themselves assertively. It would be a shame to see these voices quieted because of the sensitivity of a few. I don't know what happened with Aphrodite, but it sure sounds like she shouldn't have been permanently banned. Perhaps temporarily preventing certain people from posting when things truly get out of hand would be a better solution. I'd hate to see this forum become another one of those heavily censored, overcontrolled, overly nice and BORING sites I've experienced through the years.
Sites that are not censored have events like scammers come in and sell everyone hair that doesn't really exist. Or they quickly fill up with people that prey on the innocent or similar situations.
Is HairTalk censored? Again...we try to walk a fine line.
If HairTalk is overly nice and BORING so be it. I do my very best and if people don't like it, well that is their opinion.

What ever happened to our freedom of speech??? She has never blatently attacked another member and said cruel things, that is why I don't understand why the issue of banning her even came up. Trolls are one thing, but Aphrodite never acted like a troll. Come on people!!!

People who seem nice publicly can show very different sides behind the scenes. I have seen this happen.
What you may think happened and what really happened may not be close to reality. What you may have been told happened is one side because I am not going to talk about this in detail as I have said above.
If I just ignored things that are going on and let them go full force and the site broke out into major fighting - and this has happened before in the 10 years that HairTalk has been in existence - you would all be bitching me out because I let things get out of control. In fact, some years ago, I tried to be "fair" to the point that fighting broke out and HairTalk was closed for 30 days. I almost did not bring it back because of crap like what is happening now with this Aprhodite situation.
So with that said....I do the very best I can do to keep things as fair as possible, as quiet as possible and as friendly as possible.
Only two people really know what happened and that is Aphrodite and me. I am not going to I dignify my decisions based on what happened with an explanation.
Free speech? HairTalk is the private property of HairBoutique.com. We pay all of the bills including the two T1s that make this forum possible. HairTalk costs thousands...yes thousands...a month to support. Yet it is free for all of you to come and visit and hang out and even post about your private products. Many sites would never allow that. They don't even allow the links to private websites. Nor do they allow images. I try to be fair and bend over backwards to do so but there are limits.
Many sites come and go. They are here one minute and gone the next. We have been operational for close to 10 years except for a brief period when I got so fed up with the fighting and name calling and finger pointing that I temporarily closed the Hair Talk site.
While I want people to be comfortable and enjoy their visit, I am not going to ever allow this forum or any of the other HairTalk forums to ever again degrade into mud slinging, name calling or other horrors that happen. So if free speech means attacking me for trying to keep a clean and friendly and good forum, then that it is what it means.
I had a very good reason for banning Aphrodite and it was not the FIRST time that there was a good reason. Since I banned her more things have come to my attention and I feel that I did the right thing for the best interests of the majority people here.
Normally there would not have even been a vote about it. I made a special exception and put up a poll because I was accused of being "unfair" and showing "favoritism". Well if protecting my private property and my site and worrying about the best interests for all who visit is favoritism, then I do indeed show favoritism. If showing favoritism means supporting people that have posted over 1,500 times and visit every day and help others...then yes - I show favoritism.
One last point. Where are all of YOU accusing me of being unfair when I am sitting alone at 3:00 am in the morning and deleting spam attacks on the Extension board or deleting trolls or deleting threads where people are calling each other names. And where are all of you when I am getting bombarded with BMails from people pointing fingers and saying she did this and she did that and she sucks and I hate her and etc etc etc.
Good deeds, which I am trying to do in the interest of this forum, never GO unpunished - or do they?
I know one thing, I have certainly seen people in new lights as a result of all of this.

I agree with all of the above. There are many members who do what Aphrodite was banned for. Why is she being singled out???? and dragged through the mud????
I really like this board and I like reading everyones opinions on different matters. I feel like no one will give their true feelings or thoughts anymore frightened that someone may read it the wrong way and complain and get the person banned.
Personally I have found many sources from members here. That's I love this place. I find no offense to them. how else are we to find what we are looking for if you can't let people know what you have???
