When you remove your extensions, you'll notice quite a bit of hair falling out. This does not mean that your hair has been pulled out; people normally lose 50-100 hairs per day, but we don't notice it because they come out gradually in the hairbrush, shower, on clothing and chairs, etc. This isn't a problem, since new hair grows in at a similar rate to replace the fallen hair. When your hair is in extensions, hair cannot "fall" normally, since it's trapped in an extension base- so the root of the hair comes off your scalp, but the length remains next to your real hair. Once you take out your extensions, your hair must be detangled and the fallen hair removed. Your hair might look tangled and dreadlocked, but it's really mostly a matter of combing out the fallen hair.

I wish my hair lady explained this to me..

Not to BEAT a dead horse here.. But Paul Jayne.. All of the ladies here told you the VERY SAME THING when you posted your FIRST note here asking about extensions.. You are a little over the two month mark with your extensions, and your hair is growing..

The ladies here are right, and I'm going to echo the SAME sentiment.. GO SEE YOUR STYLIST TODAY!! not the 12th.. I know this is a new experience for you, but the ONLY way to aleviate your fears is to go see your stylist..

If she cannot see you until the 12th, then you need to seriously consider finding another stylist.. the 12th is too long to wait when your problems are ocurring TODAY.. You paid A LOT of money, and you should feel comfortable with your "purchase". I'm not a DIYer, and I can understand NOT wanting to do your own extensions. God bless the ladies who do their own, but I prefer to leave that to a professional. So go see your stylist.. If she cannot or will not help you until the 12th, get in the phone book or ask around or whatever you have to do, and find another stylist who is skilled and responsive to your concerns.

Yes, I got a sheet that was from GL, it was basic stuff, nothing in detail.  No, I did not go see her. She is booked  up till the 12th.  That one came out because I kept brushing it and thought it was a mat, it was my hair actually not a mat. So i did not know what it was until I found the inf0 I posted above on a website.

yes PaulaJayne, and thats one of the basic things she should have explained to you. Did she give you any after care or fusion maintanance information?  Its normal for hair to shed, and it cannot 'fall' due to being attached in the bond.

But the things you mentioned sounded more like possible problems, which is why we suggested to you to have your girl LOOK at your bonds. Maybe you have an issue or maybe its just normal shedding, but without seeing them we cant tell , nor can anyone tell you over the phone.

Anyway good luck, and did you go see your extensionist?

Sarytyr- I agree completely. It's so nice to know if I hate it or have
problems, or just want to change my hair back to how it was for a week, I
can. It's so much more control.

Also, yeah, a looper is a must! And just finger comb through it a lot, and
gently seperate the hairs that meld together from bond to bond.

The strands can get tangled more easily as well when you dry upside down and that can exacerbate shedding and matting especially the longer you are into an install (because of growth).

It is really good that your stylist is responsive to you and that you have been happy with your hair.  When I had a bad experience with extensions because of a fugitive stylist (didn't return calls, etc.) I gave up on them for about 6 months...but once I researched and decided that DIY could work for me I jumped back in and have been doing my own extensions for the past 4 months.

I have less anxiety about my extensions now, since I know if something doesn't seem quite right I can just remove and try again (and I do...about once every 3 weeks or so...shrinkies, protac, or microrings).   I have spent less money than what I did for that 1 time for fusion extensions that lasted 3 weeks and looked awful!

great advice Prncezzral!

I think the reason for not drying your extensions upside down is the tension it puts on the root of your hair when the weight of wet extensions is pulling in the opposite direction of natural hair growth.

The looper brush is a definite must for extensions!

hi I was told my my extensionist never to dry your hair upside down that it weakens the bonds. I would go ahead and stop doing that. Alot of extensionists advise against it.  Did you get a special brush to comb your hair out everyday? I have one that i can use to brush my hair and it does not get caught on the extension bonds. This helps prevent matting and tangling.

Hey hun, you should look into a DIY method in the future. But, the stylist
(especially for the price of GLs) should be at your beck and call!! It sounds
like matting to me too! Which can be serious, you need to becareful, I
ignored it once and had to chop a huge chunk out of my hair!! It might be
the product too if you aren't getting it out? Not sure.

She should answer those questions for you though.

Go figure!
Did she say it's better to dry upside down? Who knows...
Before you totally give up on extensions you should try the clip-ins. I was so fed up with fusion and ready to give up extensions. The fusion feels more natural, for sure! But yikes, the price.

I love them so much, but I am not doing them again. Too expensive and I panic too much, my hair was short thin/fine so I don;t know.  I have not had them cut since installation which was Jan. 18th. My hair is growing alot where the extension are not at, so we will see..

I've read that with fusion you sould not dry upside down. Ask her if that's why. Anyway, I'm glad she'll look at them tomorrow. I'm sure it's fine.

Also, since this is the first time you've had them I think it's normal to observe every detail and question it. Once you get used to wearing them you'll know what's normal and abnormal. I still think if you're going to do this long term you should find a cheaper way b/c you're going to end up in the poor house.

Ya, I talked to her, she said it was normal for some loss, etc. I am going there tomorrow to  have her look, the rest are fine, once in awhile I loose one or they are tangled and i got them out.

I wonder if it is because i dry it upside down, scrunch with Garnier curl shaping gel, and then scrunch again with Paul Mitchell fast drying sculpting spray, maybe that is gumming them up or something???

Yeah, you should just drop by.

Is this the first time you've had extensions? The first time I had mine, they shed out within two weeks and my so called extensionist never returned any of my calls. She also didn't work in a salon. I had to find out how to take them out myself. Anyway, I would take Sherrie's advice and go see her.

why would you want to wait? if there is a potential problem, your problems will be MUCH bigger before the 12th. At least if your extensionist LOOKS at them and there isnt a problem, then you will have the reassurance and calm your worries.  Is your extensionist close enough to you to drop in to see her? If not Im sure someone local would look just to give you an opinion (maybe a small charge at most) Personally if I had a client calling me with concerns or telling me the things you have posted about I would want to see the client ASAP!!
