QuoteReplyTopic: Fine Hair - layers or blunt? Posted: April 28 2000 at 4:18am
Hi, everyone! This just happens to be my first post, too, strawberryblond! :-) I have fine, straight-to-wavy, mid-shoulder-blade-length, blond hair. The quantity of it is right in between thick & thin. For me, I have a much easier time with it when it's all one-length (except for bangs). When I was in my teens, I had perms with layers only around the face, & it looked horrible when it wasn't styled. Even though it was curly & the perm gave it volume, it was too wild for me & I generally didn't like the way it fell. It was a big relief after I grew the layers out, & the hair didn't need to be worked with nearly as much. I guess every head of fine hair is different. If I could find a stylist like Annie's, maybe my hair would look good with layers, but I've had so many bad experiences that I won't ever do that again. So, my vote is for blunt cut. Lately, though, I've been trying thickening shampoos & conditioners, & they've been working very well for me. Good day to all! :-)

Hi. I have thin fine hair. Iprefer layers. Blunt cut is too flat. Layers give some body. They are long layers and kinda of cut in a shag. It works for me. Also try the amplify gel and spray root lifter, they seem to really add body. Best of all you need a stylist that can cut thin fine hair. I had a bad one awhile ago and did a terrible job. Got a good one now. She does wonders with my hair.

In my experience: If you have fine hair but it is thick (in other words, a lot of it) you can do layers. I wouldn't go severe though because it may lay flat. If you have fine hair and thin (not a lot) then stay with the bob (blunt cut). If you are worried about layers, start small - like a slight layered bob. A shag cut could be disastrous unless you have the right hair. Hope this helps
First, hello everyone - this is my first post although I've been a frequent lurker for awhile.
I am always looking for the best way to style my fine hair and I keep reading conflicting information. Some say hair has to be blunt cut, others say it needs layers for volume. Opinions? Perhaps it depends on the length of the cut? I currently have a chin length bob that I would like to get cut in a more "shaggy" style but I have a fear of layers!
