Well, I tried to make sure to use a pure henna that I could dye over, just in case this happened.  And I only used it once.  But if you really think I shouldn't risk it, is there any way to disguise my slightly-less-brilliantly-red roots until it's long enough to have grown out?  Maybe a non-permanent color?  I've got about two inches of roots.

I'm getting my hair cut pretty short soon, so no worries there.

I was hoping either to go back to my natural color (which is a reddish-brown), or to go to a subtly brighter, more coppery-red color that would be easy to maintain.  By easy to maintain I mean something like ... I've heard of coloring jobs that were a system of highlighting that look totally natural, and you don't have to get them redone for 16 weeks.  That would sound like heaven to me.  I love my red, and hate my brown.  Hence the henna.

Also, a note for anyone who doesn't know: What I know of henna (I did heavy research on it before I tried it, for this reason), is that compound henna mixes react with the metallic salts in various chemicals (such as hair dye), making nasty results.  But body-art-quality henna is pure, and won't have that problem.  Also, the people who use the same stuff I did said that after as many months as it has been (since Feb), it wouldn't react anyway.

Some people swear by Henna....I swear at Henna! You won't be able to remove it from your hair not even with bleach. You can't color over it and you can't remove it. I've heard some people say Mineral Oil removes it but I've never attempted it. Let it grow out, cut it off and never use Henna again. Sorry I can't be more helpful but as a professional stylist I've seen many Henna disasters....it just builds on the hair and coats it and coats it and well you get the idea....
