As for the oilyness problem, if it looks so oily after what you feel is
too short a time, maybe your shampoo is too harsh. Try diluting
your shampoo 50/50 with water (roll it slowly to mix it, don't shake,
and only make up the amount of it you will use each time to avoid it
sitting around diluted). Washing with that will still lather, and
get your scalp clean, but it will strip less of your natural oil from
your scalp and your scalp will stop overcompensating by producing so
much oil.
As for the thinning, our hair does change with age. If you really
feel its getting too thin, visit a doctor and get blood work done to
make sure everything is okay. About the Viviscal, since your hair
looks thick after you wash it, you probably don't need it. I
think the weight of the oilyness is just weighing your hair down and
making it look limp and thinner from what you say.
A multivitamin a day may help if you don't already take one, just to
make sure you are not missing something with your diet (but don't
overdo vitamins, taking too much of some things causes hair loss and
worse).

I'm a 22 year old male who's hair has changed quite a bit over the years. Back when I was in high school I had soooo much hair, and it was VERY VERY thick, course and wavy. I had to get a relaxer just to make it straight and manageable. However I did receive a few burns from the chemicals being so strong.
As the years went on and I cut my hair off, I noticed my hair changing even more. I dont seem to have "as much" as I used to, though I'm not going bald. The only time my hair looks nice and thick are the days its washed and dried. After a day or two, my hair looks oily and appears thin, with visible scalp which I hate cuz I've never had that problem.
I shaved my head earlier last year because I was just tired of dealing with it. Although it has grown back and I've used Viviscal, I still have the remaining problems mentioned above I thought Viviscal would fix.
My question is, is there anything I can do to "fix" or at least improve my situation? My diet is very clean, no junk food and lots of water each day. I'm seriously debating shaving my head again, as much as I love my hair I would hate to see it go because of this again.
